Marsin Virotalus

Marsin Virotalus (a.k.a. Thimble)

Marsin Virotalus is the Castellan of Blackstone Castle and the Steward of the Briary of Molrick. He is the second highest authority in the Briary, and is the primary organizer, administrator and bookkeeper for Briar Crole Blackbeard. He is also one of his closest and oldest friends.   Universally known as Thimble, Marsin is the mental brawn behind the physical brawn of Crole. His is the first face to be seen when trying to meet the Briar and his is the last word when it comes to advice or counsel to the Briar.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Very short, even for a Gnome.  Unkempt snow-white hair and beard.  Shows a inordinate tendancy to wear knitted wollen caps, even in the hotest summers.

Special abilities

Thimble is a savant when it comes to mathematics, book keeping and calculations.  He seems to remember numbers instantly and forever, and can add, subtract, multiply and divide huge sums instantly and accurately.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born to a long line of clothmakers in the Dwarven City of Thorahl, Marsin's parents followed an old Gnomish naming tradition that dictates that a given name reflect a strong or dominant characteristic of the child being named.  In Gnomish, "marsa" means many numbered or a high count, thus denoting Marsin's innate ability to calculate and keep numbers in his head.  His nickname of Thimble however is meant to "officially" denote his utter inability to master the skills his family has utilized for generations: sewing and weaving of cloth.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Thimble is actively working to aid the Clan Redfist in establishing a homeland outside of the Gorgomoth Mountains of Aria. He does this indirectly, however, by encouraging one course of action for the Briar of Molrick to take over another. Crole is not opposed to a Redfist homeland, but he does not see it as his place to try and effect its outcome. Thimble does, however. He sees the spread of Dwarven society outside of the Gorgomoth as the most successful means by which both Dwarves and Gnomes can continue to grow and prosper.

Wealth & Financial state

Fully able and willing to spend hundreds of thousands of guilders as part of his required duties, it has been speculated by his friends that Thimble is as poor as a broken mule.  Known by most to wear clothing (especially wollen caps) until they are worn away to nearly nothing, all his belongings, his lodgings and even his daily meals are all provided by the Briary.  He draws no stipend or salary, has no gold or silver and doesn't even own a matching pair of shoes.
