Seeking to make his fortune, Darberik Fivebraids gambles everything he has on an expedition to the Desolation of Azmartheon in search of Adamantine.

A poor scion in the line of Balgon and Cassada Fivebraids, the Dwarf noble Darberik Fivebraids gambled all that the records he had found of "green lightning" over the Cloudraker Mountains were signs of Adamantine. He spent all of his inheritance on experimental "stoneships" that imbued the wooden materials with the strength of Elemental Earth. His three ships, the Cassada's Vigil, the Forgeworthy, and the White Gull prepared for a lengthy and dangerous journey. Luckily, in addition to an excellent Hastane captain, one Valthi Vastdeep, he also gained the partnership of the Fire Wasps, who pledged to aid his expedition and protect his vessels.   They had many adventures along the way, ranging from revenge-thirsty Goblinoids, cultists of the Elder Elemental Eye, and the threats of the Wandering Island. They lost the Gull to the pirate Gar Shatterkeel, but the Fire Wasps won Gar's flagship, which they renamed Thongal's Honor, in the Battle of Blacksail Harbor .   After making various landfalls in Falwyth, Bedourin, and Minostal, the group reached Lashakis. The expedition now went overland to the mountains, where they located the abandoned Duergar city of Drengingvult. They saw the green lights over the city and explored it, discovering that it was now the domain of the Devourer Uvalok. After Uvalok was slain, the Fire Wasps left to the north, while Darberik and his expedition remained behind. Eventually discovering rich veins of Adamantine, the dwarves renamed their new city Dammunheim and made Darberik their Ar-Thane.
