The Obsidian Bank was built on the the former palace of the fallen Dwarven Empire of Obsidia. Unimpeded by the threat of disease, it was formed by opportunistic warforged that moved into its halls just 10 years after the Great Plague had killed off its last victims. It would be another 800 years before Priests of Talona were unable to find any remnants of disease and deem Obsidia safe for resettlement.
As it was able to amass wealth with near guaranteed security for almost a millennium, the Obsidian Bank grew to be the most powerful financial institution in the known world, with clients across Tyras and alternate material planes, including all major factions with the notable exception of the Traeventahl Circle of Druids. It also functions as a repository for powerful ancient artifacts, secrets, and diplomatic documents.

Lead by the aptly named 'The Banker', The Obsidian Bank maintains its financial dominance in Tyras through economic pressure, money lending, and driving commerce and foreign policy with The Voladrian League. It also operates as a client state of the Free City of Vol, contracting out its military needs to the city. Though the bank sits on The August Body, it is exempt from most requirements from the league.
