Blue Dragon

The second most powerful of the chromatic dragons are blue dragons. The tail is thick and rough, and the wings are larger than those of other dragons. They have an ozone or sand-like odor. Because of their inherent abilities for illusion, they are more inclined to ridicule and manipulate 'lesser' animals than to be overtly cruel or deadly. They dupe desert visitors into swallowing sand or trekking hundreds of miles out of their way. Blue dragons are mostly carnivores, however they will occasionally consume plants. Camels are the preferred source of nutrition. Brass dragons are their foes.    Blue dragons are uncommon among chromatics in that they are less solitary, often forming well-ordered and hierarchical units. They are great parents to their offspring, despite their disposition, and rarely leave their eggs alone. To incubate, blue dragon eggs must be buried in warm sand.  For sustenance, blue dragon wyrmlings hunt tiny desert animals. The traditional blue dragon cave is excavated into desert rock formations and has two entrances: one at ground level, concealed by sand, and one opening onto a high ledge from which it can view its area. Each lair also contains a cavern with a pool of water and a sandy beach where its inhabitants may drink and relax.   Aerial fighting is a strong suit for the blue dragon. They use lightning to strike opponents in the air or on the ground. They have a strong grasp of spellcraft and are skilled at digging in sand. They frequently wait for prey close beneath the surface of the desert. Their enormous horns can be mistaken for pointed desert pebbles when they are so buried.
