Slann Lord Merestar

Merastar is a Slann of the Third generation and is the eldest Slann in Klodorex.   Merestar did not become a resident of Klodorex until after the Great Cataclysm when he arrived at Klodorex as one of the lieutenants of Slann Lord Izzatal. After Izzatal's death and the near total destruction of Klodorex, Merestar chose to stay in Klodorex to help rebuild and mystically repair the local magical ley lines, supervising the construction of the Monument of Izzatal.   By Slann standards, especially by the standards of Third Generation Slann, Merestar was brash and impulsive (though most humans would consider him intolerably contemplative and slow acting). He was also more of a hands on than most other Slann, taking a more active role in the day-to-day activities of Klodorex than was typical for a Slann leader.   Merestar believed strongly that the First needed to shepherd the younger races more directly, especially the humans, who he believed were intended by the Old Ones to be the first line of defense against the forces of Chaos.   Without the permission of the Second Generation Slann, Merestar and the younger Slann of Klodorex began a plan to create a population of humans who worshipped the Old Ones outright under direct guidance from the First Children of the Old Ones.   This effort was detailed in the story The Fall of Turochlitan. As the story title suggests, the Turochlitan experiment failed.   It failed so badly that Merestar became depressed. He went from being one of the active Slann of the Third generation into being among the most comatose, barely stirring for almost 2000 years, not even speaking until the aftermath of the events of the story The Orphaned Temple City.   Since reawakening, Merestar is not as lively and impulsive as he used to be but his belief in his interpretation of the Great Plan has been invigorated. He believes that despite the failure of Turochlitan, the First must actively shepherd the younger races in order to defeat the Fallen and Anathema. He did personally lead an army towards the end of the story Legacies, 26,462 words.   His greatest success was directing a party of Skinks to help reestablish telepathic contact between the Slann of Lustria and the Slann of the Southlands. This was covered in the story Divided We Fall.   While Merestar has yet to have a true success in working with the younger races against the Fallen and Anathema, his Southlands allies have managed a major success with the dwarves covered in the story New Alliances.   After this, Merestar became an admired but controversial figure among the Slann of Lustria. Merestar is the unofficial leader of the pro-shepherd side of the Great Debate and this has earned him political enemies from more conservative Slann under the sway of Mazdamundi.
