Merchant Princes of Westermarrow

The Merchant Princes arrose in 566, a decade after the the fledgeling Rendlean Empire were defeated by the Dwarves of Khaz Rendlea. The war began over the Rendlean encroachment toward the Dwarves homeland they settled in the 23rd year within the Greyhammer Peaks. The Dwarves gave the Rendlean Empire and Emperor Tiffin multiple warnings before the Dwarves took military action. By 555, the Rendlean Empire was brought to its knees and sued for peace. With the Empires economy in shambles the peasantry rose up and in a year had overthrown the Tiffin dynasty. From the ashes of civil war, the Merchant Princes rose up, making piles of coin off of mining operations, and funding farms to feed the starving people. This set them up to exploit the people, and take control over the old Rendlean capitol of Westermarrow, and the rest of the remaining cities left from the civil war and conflict with Khaz Rendlea. They restored order to Westermarrow, but their presence was largely rejected by the rest of the cities and settlements, for the peasants no longer wanted to bow to anyone. The princes are strongest in Westermarrow, but still maintain large profits and a degree of control within Fallfox, Marshacre, Greenfog and Woodvale. In Merriwall and Butterbank, the people refuse to let them control their towns, but still let the princes invest in commerce and industry. Which little do they know, still makes their towns in the pocket of the princes.   The Merchant Princes comprise of many families: Pembry, Henly, Grifter, Baron, Whiterock, Willowbranch, Enric and Vinebow. Each family invests and controls different portions of commerce. No family has more control over another, that's not to say they don't favor one family over another. While one family might be producing wheat and specialize in farming, another might be masters of gold mining. Officially on paper, they are supposed to share the wealth between families, however, its common knowledge that none actually do.
