Kraius
Squeaky

A blustering, overconfident yet easily overwhelmed know-it-all, Kraius is enraptured by Ioth himself and the tales of Alfar magic. He's determined to be the greatest archmage of all time and has taken a leadership role in the Codex.

Disturbing Conclusions

by Kraius

If my calculations are correct--and unless Athalor deliberately sabotaged me I know they're correct--something is seriously wrong with Ioth Academy. This is not a new development, it's a process that must have been going on for years. I haven't shared my concerns with anyone but Garnet yet...but this may the exact task the Codex is suited for.

To put it in terms anyone could understand, the academy is built on a naturally occurring reserve of Dawn Energy stabilized and expanded by Ioth and his companions and anchored by the Spire to create a cohesive zone in which ambient arcane pulses facilitate the continued endurance of normally fleeting spell matrices. The lodges, the ring, the planar metageometric properties of the space within the sphere, the defensive and climate changes enacted by the sphere itself are all the result of stable Dawn Magic. That magic should be rotating in concentric fields, some clockwise, some counterclockwise, around the spire as part of the stable pattern.

What I've found is that there's a negative force, a vacuum or friction of some kind, impeding that rotation, drawing Dawn Energy back into itself. This drainage accounts for the semipermeable barriers between the extraplanar space denoted by the Sphere and the Otherworld, thereby causing the fey incursions that have plagued the school since at least I began attendance.

The problem is, I can't think of who would be capable of this. It could be a flaw of some kind...but I'm sure Ioth wouldn't leave a flaw and would notice it immediately?

Could something have happened to the progenitor of all magic? There's no way he's actually behind this.

If the Codex is to preserve the legacy of Ioth and his companions and the magical traditions of the Alfar, solving this crisis is our most important purpose. It's what's going to set us apart in history as the Best of the Best.

Enrolled in Otherworld Studies

While Underworld studies might appeal to elementalists and their ilk, Otherworld Studies is far more applicable to the history of Ioth and his companions. After all, the Alfar make their homes there and the brightest patches of Dawn Magic can be found in the gaps betwixt ours and their world. I am sure Ceobotun will be an adequate teacher.

Became Roommates with Ned

The determined artificer is exactly what the Codex needs, and even though Athalor has been actually...helpful? Recently? Kraius would rather stay roommates with someone industrious, focused and friendly. Here's to year 5

Fourth Year Project

Obsessed as he is with the past and the legacy of Ioth, Kraius decided to turn his attentions to the recent fey incursions. After all, the Golden Sphere is supposed to keep non-students and non-faculty out, and yet over the last few years more and more fe...

The Golden Sphere is supposed to prevent direct access to and from the Academy except by deliberate spellwork from those inside, which means one of two things. 1) Someone who's supposed to be here is deliberately summoning in fey from the otherworld 2) Something's wrong with the planar barriers inherent to the orb's structure. My new final project for Etiology will measure the integrity and resonance of the planar barrier so it can be tested. This could be used to find whoever's summoning these fey, or to find where they're sneaking through. Regardless, it's tower-level work, certainly worthy of the Codex.

Kraius' First Year

It was a rough opening for young Kraius. When he arrived at Ioth Academy he deliberately discarded everything from his prior life. A student at the greatest institute of magical learning in the four kingdoms is all he wanted to be--not anybody else. He...

Snuffed out the life of a sentient being

By the power of the arcane and superior tactics we repelled an attack by malicious fey in the depths of the Undercroft. Garnet was transfigured, her very form ethereal and effervescent, it was terrifying yet a vision of awe. Whatever was going on down there, I'm certain it's not been approved by anyone at the academy. But then again, we weren't supposed to be there either... Quite confused.

Became friendly acquaintances with "Ned"

After a catastrophic failed promposal to Garnet, many of Kraius' circle of friends distanced themselves from him. Between his public humiliation and newfound zeal for The Codex, Kraius is holding on closer to those who stuck around and who hold the same values. As such, he and "Ned" have been spending more time studying and talking. They've known each other since they arrived at the Great Hall, but it's only in their Fourth Year that they're actually getting to know each other.
