Hilde got a boyfriend

The trap is set. Now we wait.

Subtlety isn’t my forte…making a mechanical eye after Anachronous took over all the constructs hasn’t been easy. Fortunately most of the artificers are too distracted on their own projects to notice. Velo has had his suspicions since I’m supposed to be on vacation, but I told him my hands can’t stay idle. It seemed to work. I can finish assembly inside the well so no one can find me.

Whenever my hands start to cramp or eyes strain too much, I turn and hug Velo for a brief reprieve. He’s always so supportive. I told him I needed a break from Reverie court crafting, and he’s been by my side the whole time, massaging my hands during breaks. What’s so compelling about finishing this eye? It’s just another reminder of Cuan, I guess. Finish it quickly, and move on. It’s not like he’s coming back. Why did he have an eye inserted into his neck in the first place? I should add a tracker. People keep stealing my projects. Sol was mentioning that the angry girl was searching for someone, but didn’t say who. Well that’s unhelpful. No wonder she’s failing. If she hurts Velo, I’ll stick her in my bag of holding.

Surprise date went well. Velo seemed to really enjoy his new broom and checking out the Ioth runes in the Sphere.

Understood Master Untermauler! I’ll send out a raven to notify FUCKEM to activate.

The Impromptu Party

I finished all of my Fooltide costume commissions, so I had some extra time to work on a gift for Velo. I want to finish it before our field trip, so I’ve been grinding 20 hours a week…I’ve been skipping pole dancing classes recently, and I guess it’s taking a toll on me. While I was in the library working on weighted blankets, Velo kept following me around, like a pet. He said he hasn’t seen me as much recently, so he wanted to maximize our time together. I think he seemed to notice something was off while we were working on weighted blankets because he told me I looked tired and asked if I was working too hard. I didn’t want to spoil the surprise, but I did tell him that I’ve been working on a project that required a lot of detailed artifice, so that’s why I’ve been away… I was going to offer including him during some of my research time with Dart and Zoku or while tree bathing in the greenhouse with Watch, but I think he wanted time for just the two of us. I noticed my skin wasn’t looking so good recently and the dark circles returned under my eyes, so I told him that I’ll simply have to add time to relax and so I showed him a weekly Velo time slot where we don’t need to work on anything. He seemed shocked that I would do such a thing and admittedly I’ve never felt compelled to make time for anything other than work or maintaining necessary social connections. What’s changed? I was so distracted checking my schedule, I didn’t notice when he put a ring on my pinky. I rarely get presents from anyone, and here he is with three in one month. I can’t understand what’s going on…he said he wanted to try crafting a Prestidigitation ring for me so we could spend more time together. He says there’s unlimited charges and I didn’t really do a thorough inspection of the spell matrices, but the gesture of him trying to make something for me without knowing how is very charming. HE SAID THE CONDUCTOR WAS MADE FROM SOME OF HIS RED DRAGON SCALES. I told him the Charir value their dragon blood and that this ring isn’t so trivial. He scoffed at that remark and told me my time is more valuable. I should get back to work.

Date went well. Surprisingly well. I didn’t expect Velo to work so hard to transform the library for a simple dinner. He enjoyed the nabe I made and added some cookies he baked himself! …they were alright, BUT my strawberries and cream complemented them really well, so I made some cookie sandwiches for dessert. After dinner, he wanted to try a bit of paper crafting, so we made dream catchers. I suggested using some of the paper of vellum I’ve made for Sol, but Velo insisted we use a couple of his soul pages. Apparently they link his soul with his patron, Sol…I don’t know how to feel about that. He asked me to write something in my first language, so I wrote down “El hwel co ca un oocksop“ (I want you to be happy). He said he knew Celestial, but maybe it’s a different dialect because it took him a bit to translate the sentence. For his dream catcher, he wrote in "si huven wux vi kivan jennuilt loupon wer achiusk" (I wish you a hoard greater than the Emerald Tablets). He was surprised I didn’t know Draconic…no one is perfect. But he offered to teach me in exchange for a future date. I told him he didn’t need to bargain with me for another date, but it would be nice to learn Draconic one day. I should probably try and surprise him with something for the next date. Today was very unexpectedly pleasant.

I dropped off the table and stools. He seemed to like them a lot. I’m glad he really appreciated the modular format and the paper loading system I added to the base. We were talking about future projects and post-grad aspirations. I told him how I’m joining the Tower of War to focus on diplomacy through education and counter Internal measures using fortifications and supply chain manipulation. He was particularly interested in the traveling libraries for nomadic and Hillfolk communities. Even volunteered himself to be my personal librarian. He’s interested in theoretically creating an object that can have two opposing energies in the same space…I told him it sounded like an explosive. He wanted something more complex than that, like the firmament and some opposite energy. I told him to look into cold iron as a magic resistant barrier between the two. Maybe he should try some iterations in Dream?

Velo asked me to have dinner with him in his book hoard, but he doesn't have a table. I should fix that. Come to think of it, does he even have any chairs in the hoard? Maybe some modular ones and a table with wheels would be nice so he can move things around. I hope the librarians don't give us trouble. Maybe I should make extra dessert for them...hmmmm...

Fooltide costumes are complete! Master Untermauler agreed to be the FUCKEM advisor. Now to present the school weaving project for next year’s curriculum. I think we can harness more energy to support the academy. I wonder if we can apply a similar model to the refugee camp?

Who is BigGob and what is he doing with Cuan’s cube? Don’t ask me how I came upon the cube (just a little excursion with practical magic applications). Now that classes may be going back to normal now that Master Untermauler is back, I should work on my final project. The alarm vest is complete without any complications. Calm Emotions weighted blanket is a hit. Maybe it’s time to mass produce and profit? Another option is looking at reducing the cost for dust of dryness so we can give the students and their communities the best chance against Infernals/sovereigns/nightmares while in a hurry…I thought I got away from all the craziness by coming to the Mortal World, but I was wrong.

I haven’t found him yet. His roommate Lex hasn’t seen him recently, either. He can’t fly and probably wouldn’t even bother trying to go to the Spire. I…knew he wanted to go back to Clockwork City to become a Designer, but I just thought we would have more time together to grow stronger before going our separate ways. It sucks. He didn’t even leave a fucking note. If I see him again, I’m absolutely shocking him.

Bebo tried to attack me. Their eyes turned a strange rusty orange. I used my boomer cannon to push them away. Locked them in our room, but the hallways are full of fighting. Where’s Cuan?

So I confessed to Cuan that I might like him. A couple weeks later he chops off his hand and replaces it with a steel one. Cool, noted.

What’s with all the screaming? I should go check on Megale and Aoife…probably send out Talulah to check on Kilgore/Eva…Cuan should be up and I don’t think he would be screaming…

How am I supposed to fix a carpet, if they keep asking to take the carpet back? I guess I’ll just weave some of the materials and then get to work once they’re done. What did they do to get the carpet so damaged in the first place?

Cora wants to search for the alleged fey incursion. I wonder if they would be willing to trade? It would be nice to get more Obliviax and maybe some Boggle fluid for some fun.

The week off let me catch up on a lot of Eva projects. She’s been asking for wings for months now and we finally found a pair after the storm. Had to do a bit of mending to get the feathers right. While experimenting on the salty rain water I collected, I realized that I could run an electric current through it. So I created some water holding devices and connected them to the nerve endings of the wings. I thought detachable wings would be smarter, but Eva insisted that I graft them on to her. Attached to each of the devices are transmitters that link up to Eva’s core. Perhaps I can use this to develop the baby she’s been wanting. I’ve been researching some spells I could learn, but it may be best if Eva learns them so she can control her own progeny.

Eva asked for a way to remember Marcel…my memory moss project is still far from completion and memory orbs are a little too expensive. I heard about a childhood game where messages could be relayed through some thin pieces of metal and a string. I used a vuvuzela prototype and tied some string to a needle to see what would happen. Sure enough, when I spoke into the vuvuzela, the needle started vibrating. I then added ink to the needle tip to see if it would record my voice on paper. Further application led to scratching my voice on to wood, but with all the recent weather changes, the wood rot. Now that we have a week off, I asked Cuan to make me glass disks to use on my record player. The round shape is optimal and the hand crank allows for a more natural recording. Finally, I asked Marcel to come and play a song for Eva and face the modified vuvuzela. I wonder if I can apply this in case we ever go to war and create a really obnoxious recording and play it for our opponents as a sound related defense system?

Des moved in. I told him to go stay with Cora, but he wanted to grow a garden in my closet…I’m not opposed to the idea, but I need to find a place to put my fabric horde once I re-make it. Maybe I’ll just keep it in the dungeon or weave on demand. Once we fix the greenhouse, he can move there.

Ohva took over communications for Tarslemoor, so I had some free time to rest. I was still worried about my friends and I couldn’t do much from the dorm except lend Talulah and one of my cannons to the relief effort. I offered support for an hour before going to relax in the greenhouse since it was too cold to go outside. Unfortunately, all the glass broke and most of the plants didn’t look great. I asked Cuan if we could maybe try and fix the roof, but there was too much damage. Really glad he was there, his coat is so warm. We just sat back for awhile and watched the fight between the academy staff and I’m guessing the knights up above. It was beautiful, but I hope Master Untermauler is ok. I thinnnnk I saw his magestic horns riding a magic carpet, but with all the weather changes and explosions, it was hard to see. Apparently there were some other students who were hurt when the glass broke. They didn’t look like they were dressed for the cold, either, so I sighed and told them to follow my glow back downstairs. It seemed to get even colder, so I went to try and boil some water, but the water flow broke or something. I hope this isn’t a long term issue like the problems we had in the Grove. I asked Cuan to help me build some snow collecting boxes so we could melt it for water if the problem persisted. Exhaustion finally hit, and I asked if I could just sleep over since my room no longer had any blankets. Sorry if I was a burden! When I woke up, I thought I heard some yelling down the hall…5 more minutes…heard more yelling, so I left Cuan’s room and headed back to the control center. Ohva and some randos were cornered by an ice mephit. Not in my house! I was readying my cannon and catapult to fire at the mephit, but Megale came rushing in and oblitererated it…cool. Ohva seemed a little hurt, so I healed her and checked on the others. Everyone from the relief missions were returning and seemed ok. Marcel and Terberisa were pretty hurt, but they had people attending to their wounds. Still no water, so I woke up Bebo and Cuan to help me try and fix what we could. Ned asked why I was even doing that when there’s other people and spells to fix it…I told him to look around, there’s not enough help, so it’s up to us to do it ourselves unless we want more Mephits or worse visiting us. That guy, I swear…Aoife did mention he helped her a lot during the relief mission, so I guess he’s ok…not a total waste of space. It’s been an unnerving couple weeks, but I’m really happy.

The common area is mostly empty save Ohva and a few students. I haven’t slept in over 24 hours since we were prepping for the relief mission. I’m used to flying to the Undercroft, but all of those trips carrying supplies to the launch site was exhausting. I had donated all of my fabric, most of me clothes, and even my blanket to help support the refugee camp…I should have kept more. I ended up wrapping myself in a dish towel while debating whether or not the dorm was safe. It seems the fight has affected the water system, so I built some boxes to collect rain and snow so we can use it later. Honestly, I was surprised Cuan helped. I didn’t want to bother him because I knew he usually wouldn’t want to leave his room. But he showed up (in search of soup, but the effort was there) and helped prep kits and make maps. I was there because my friends sprung to action, and I didn’t mind giving whatever I could to help them. Why did he stay? I must have looked so defeated because he just came up behind me and offered his coat. Why am I so lucky?

The greenhouse has been strange lately. Yesterday, I met a 6th year who looked terrified of me and wouldn’t say what was wrong. Today, I just ran into a firbolg. He seemed nice, so I made one of the lavender plants bloom…and then he started talking to it. Interesting! Maybe next time I should bring presents…or a letter for the one who doesn’t talk?

I had to do something…Using some of the scraps from Buta’s outfit I made for him, I decided that friendship bracelets seem the most appropriate. I know what it’s like to not really have any family besides the friends here, so I hope Buta knows we all really miss him. He mentioned a copper bracelet, so I used some of my copper hoard to make the accents. Also used some carbon paper to transfer his handwriting and created a stencil to write on some wood and leather scraps so we can all remember him. He was so brave, but I wish he didn’t handle this alone…

I’m so proud of Kilgore! She did amazing during the dueling tournament. I wish I could have helped her prep more, but alas, no magic items could be used…I’m really proud that her pole dancing outfit held up during both battles. The new stretchy fabric I made using some of the Undercroft chemicals worked really well.

Dropping off more food for Buta and Rednop. I hope Helen and Unis enjoy the muffins Kilgore made. They don’t quite trust me yet since you know…fey food. But I showed them the bead Dart gave me and I told them I’m trying really hard to get away from the reciprocity system. They’re always so cautious. Probably comes with the job, they have a lot on their plate. But I thanked them for making sure Buta eats. Hope he comes home soon. I wonder if Untermauler would accept some food?

I may have told Cuan that I like him…I also told him I don’t know what any of that means…I hope we can still be friends…I don’t know…we see each other during Untermauler’s class and we still hang out sometimes for lunch, but it feels like I still miss him? I hate this awkward feeling.

Clockwork City citizens are so different. 8380 started writing runes on the wall and we made some metal lily pads and fabric Lilies to decorate the room. He told me he liked blue, so I made him a quick jacket to lounge around in. Getting some embroidery done, but 8380 turned the lights off as some sort of signal that I should sleep. So I guess that’s it for tonight!

Why? First day of class with Untermauler and he just puts this bracelet on my desk and walks away. I casted Identify and it’s just a pretty bracelet. Got permission from a professor to explore the Undercroft (even though I already do it). Noticed some sticky, stretchy substances and I wonder if they can be turned into a durable new fabric? Wonder if Sventisko and her gang are still hanging out in that area? I hope they wear protective equipment next time I see them because the fumes can be toxic. Safety first!

Don’t forget to eat

Wig looks ok. Used my trimmings to make clip-on wefts to hide my bangs. The new metal lined fabric makes great armor, so I wanted to try it on my 5th year outfit. We’ll be doing a lot more combat, so I need to be prepared.
