Administrator Connor was visibly shocked by what we learned -- the illegal bombing, the location. He ennumerated on Zorzall; it's basically know he worked with a group at one point. It's said a particular "job", a killing, that Zorzall disagreed with made the assassin separate himself.
Connor made a great joke about Steel's sister and family (winning his approval).
The company that did castle repairs are out of Bezia, Crossed Hammers. Connor remembers at least two elves with them, one of whom was a drow. Grimar, from Andre, thinks the company is a front; they're bad at business.
On our way to investigate the Crossed Hammers, Master Theo recieved a message from Connor: the guardsman we're looking for (in addition to the hammers) is named Arthen Vhirl. Upon arrival, I redonned my old Redtail Raider uniform, the mercenary garb I wore when I first met the party back in Junama, in a sort of disguise. Murg and I entered, with Izol and Theo "hidden" in a tavern across the street, watching through magic.
Hammer & Sickle
We were greeted by a dwarf who took down the information provided by Murg about his house. Murg toed the line in our conversation, and unfortunately after bluffing about a military force surrounding the Hammers' establishment, the dwarf at the desk whipped out a hammer and cracked our bugbear's skull.
"Tell us what you know"
Deftly, Murg and Steel subdued the dwarf. Steel and Izol acted as torturers, and Theo asked the questions. The Hammers is a broker of sorts -- they launder money and handle the exchange of information and contracts. The group that "did damage in Castle Bezia" came from a Vecti buyer and were paid a metric ton of money. The dwarf knows:
Argyle, an elf "like a leprechaun" (probably the guardsman)
Ulmug, an orc "the biggest I've ever seen"
They group operates out of their drinkhouse west of Bezia, in the wilds.
Theo found a secret compartment in the dwarf's desk, which led to a secret basement with tools and alchemist's tools and information.
Cold as stone
One wall of the basement room was made of glass, and for everyone not named Theobold looking inside revealed the Hammers' basilisk. Ironically, Theo defeated it by sending up his
driftglobe, drawing its attention, and causing the basilisk to rage at itself (and turn itself to stone).
Steel found more tools:
artificer's tools, which allow the construction of more and more complex mechanisms.
Backstory: The Raid
Early in his raiding career, a raiding band broke into the Tired Sands camp and stole several of the young women, notably Steel's oldest sibling Opal. Steel, Ebon, and Sapphire all rode out with the rest of the Raiders. They found the attackers, but not the girls. The Tired Sands Clan was notkind to the attackers, and eventually
did what was needed to find Opal and the others. Steel is not proud of that moment.
