Ride to city, ride inside city
Plat: “don’t try anything funny”
Steel: *raughs*
Arrived at the inner wall (the castle + encampment), where Murg “released” Andre, NAME, and Francis (the bear) while we headed inside
And we meet Sapphire
Accoding to her:
Steel was the last person (tabaxi) seen with Ebony before she died
Hair resembling his was found on the vial of poison
Alistair stepped forward to tell Sapphire his story, to convince my sister-general of Steel’s innocence.
Izol chimed in at the end of Alistair's story as well, to further credit Steel.
Theo mentioned the events in Veradin, and Sapphire confirmed that she knew what happened there.
Murg explained Steel and his alignment (lawful-good).
Sapphire:
She didn't want it to be Steel. It was an error on her part to not tell Steel what happened. She doubts what happened.
Trial by Hunt
In the tabaxi tradition, certain blood-arguments would be settled by a kind of duel on horseback called a "trial by hunt". Sapphire, so swayed by the group, has decided this is how the issue of Steel will resolve -- if Steel dies, then that "resolves" the situation.
Good news is, Steel won last time the two hunted.
Upon arrival, Sapphire dismounted her steed Shade before explaining the rules. 100 feet apart, three shots; hit as many as you can. Steel, getting down from Dawn, agreed. Due to footbindings, our move and climb speed are both now 10 feet.
Steel won
Upon winning, it seemed that whatever worries Sapphire had about Steel disappeared. For the briefest of moments they two were siblings again.
The Traitorous Brother
Now, with the question of proof and guilt falling to Steel, Sapphire, and Platinum, it remains to be seen what Platinum Claw's hand was in all of this. Unfortunately for Steel, to prevent knowledge of his victory over Sapphire (from Platinum, who could flee if guilty), agreed to Izol's idea:
false life.
The party took an unconscious Steel with them back to the city to "reveal" Sapphire's victory to the Redtail Raiders there (including Platinum). The half-brother accompanied the group to throw Steel in a mass grave under the city of Bezia. Murg, before throwing Steel into the grave,
suggesting that Platinum confess to any crimes he may have committed to Ebony. Platinum confessed he framed Steel for Ebony's death, when he discovered
Ebony had been assassinated.
Upon speaking further with Platinum, the traitor revealed that an assassin, an orc called Zorzal, was hired to kill Ebony to destabilize the Bezian region. According to Theo and Murg, Zorzal in the "infamous assassin" of the region; Zorzal kills with basilisk venom and a knife, a "calling card" of sorts.
More recently in Seteth's Crossing, a branch of Niveron's military, the Whitecliff Hand, had setup a base of sorts. Using forbidden magic (teleportation rings, network sending stones), they aimed to build a spy network and take over the region ago. This was all true until five days ago, when the Hand was utterly destroyed (incl. their leader Jean Whitecliff), perhaps by Zorzal. This crippled Niveron's military capabilities. In turn, this information was discovered by the local thieves' guild, which was then sold (the information) by the leader of the guild to Excellion for 500,000gp. Sapphire, therefore, has this information for Bezia.
With Sapphire's agreement, we were given permission to use a new asset of Bezia: the royal teleportation circle, located in the administrative section of the city. Only Steel has things to do in the city; otherwise it is onwards to Arcadia as war looms.
