Legacy of the Ki'Nau

(Based on "A City on the Edge", by Rich Lescouflair)  
This adventure takes place on Bisaft Isle, mostly in and around Bisaft Port, a small resort town and merchant port on the Menagerie Coast.
 

Adventure Background

 

Location: Bisaft Isle

The largest island in an archipelago southwest of Port Damali, Bisaft Isle is a lush expanse of jungle, nut and fruit trees, exotic creatures, and thick mangroves. Swarming with denizens that call the dense foliage home, Bisaft has become a favored location to hide contraband or conduct unlawful activity beyond the sight of the Clovis Concord. Bisaft is dotted with abandoned ruins of the Ki’Nau who once ruled this jungle, and some believe that these villages hide knowledge and gifts granted to the Ki’Nau by their elemental patrons.

  Along the southern shore of the island lies a single bastion of civilization, known as Bisaft Post. A small town of no more than sixteen hundred people, the harbor town is a tropical escape for concord citizens and a surprisingly busy place of business for ships in need of resources and repairs while passing through the trade lanes of the Swavain Islands.

The Hook

This adventure is a good follow up for Tide of Retribution. While the PCs have a means to breath underwater, nudge them towards Divers' Grave for a little salvage operation. As they work through that, prime them by narrating all the sore muscles, salt crusted itchy skin, tangled hair, and sunburn. Then once they have gold to spare, point them to the resort on Bisaft Isle. Gee, they never got to enjoy Palma Flora. Maybe a different spa?

Seed Bisaft Port with NPCs from the characters' backstories:

  • a nefarious rival is staying at the resort
  • a friendly contact is one of the faction NPC's
  • a past mentor was studying Ki'Nauan history

The nefarious rival will turn out to be one of the head honchos of the cult of Zehir, the cult working to assemble and use the Dreamer's Amulet. This will give plenty of opportunity to skulking around the resort, eavesdropping at banquets, using disguises, etc.

 

The Challenge

A new threat has arisen that has the merchants and locals in a panic. An affliction the locals have come to know as the "Death Curse." Major factions including the Clovis Concord, the Myriad, the Claret Orders, and the Golden Grin, have each tasked a representative to discover the the source of this curse, and purge it from the region.

Meanwhile, yuan-ti spies have attempted to smuggle a cursed relic into the town with plans to advance their own goals. Though this The Dreamer's Amulet was to secretly arrive in four different parts, events have kept the pieces from being retrieved and united, forcing the spies to alter their plans in order to reclaim them.
