Wealdstone

Demographics

35% Half-Elf, 25% Gnome, 20% Halfling, 10% Human, 10% Other (including Dragonborn, Dwarves, Genasi, Half-Orcs, Tieflings and Fairies).

Government

The Town is run and protected by Melora's Conclave. Wealdstone is the largest town in the area outside The Heartland Forest protected by the Conclave. Daina Autumnvale is the town's mayor and a high ranking member of the Conclave. She is in charge of the local politics as well as leading the other members who enforce the town's laws. Whilst she ranks similarly to other member within the city, she is still the acting authority and is only answerable to the Winterstalkers or the Master of the Wild.

Defences

Guards. Daina Autumnvale employs a force of approximately 300 soldiers, including a mix of local guards and militerised members of the conclave. Typically, detachments of soldiers are lead by a Summerstrider or Autumnreaver, but is not a necessity.   Palisade and Watchtowers. The town is surrounded by a large, wooden palisade, however notable entrances are left to the north, south and east leading out of the city. Each of these is equipped with a pair of constantly manned watchtowers. Other entrances and exits to the city do exists, one to the south-east which leads to the Shrine of the Changebringer and one to the South-west for the use of the local sawmill, though these are much smaller and far enough off the beaten track that they are not utilised by travellers.

Infrastructure

The Enchanted Oak. Named for The Mothertree at the center of The Heartland Forest, this Inn, run by the green dragonborn Kriv, boasts many comfortable room to accommodate travellers. Whilst their prices are not cheap, the tavern is plus and comfortable with an ample bar filled with seating, both table and booth. The taverns main attraction is the awakened tree at its center, which helps distribute food, drinks, and occasionally dispatch local drunkards.   The Myth Smiths. A famous blacksmith and enchanters located in the north-west of the town. It is run by the gnome couple Gimble and Alston Fiddlefire who produce the arms and enchant them respectively. They are are able to accommodate custom orders and, while these may not be quite to fulfill, they are consistently of excellent quality.   The Hillside Hippodrome. The theatre is a famous location to many bards and performers who travel Concordia. It is run by a group from The Scarlet Bards, lead by the tiefling musician Melody, who put on concerts and shows each weekend. Performances range from musicians to circus acts and comedians and it is thought amongst these artisans that performing on this stage is the first step to making a name for oneself across the continent.   Scoria and Sun's Sawmill. Located in the south-west of the town, this is the carpenters which the fire genasi Scoria and Sun own. They use wood responsibly taken from The Heartland Forest to help maintain the city as well as for projects brought to them by both locals and travellers. They are also famous for the production of fire-charred barrels use for the production of whisky across the continent.   Wealdstone Market. The towns large market which travelling merchants stop to sell wares to each other and others who pass through.

Guilds and Factions

The Order of the Wildfire. Scoria and Sun are both members of Melora's Conclave who work closely with Hagan of the Wildfire. The two fire genasi are training under Hagan to become the next guardians of The Burnwillow Grove and as a result visit it frequently.   The Scarlet Bards. Members of the Scarlet Bards are known to travel through Wealdstone on their way north or south. Often they will make a point of visiting the town to get an opportunity to perform at the town's famous Hillside Hippodrome.   The Silver Hand. The thieves' guild has members here who aid the operation of various smuggling missions. They can be found in the towns market, which is famous for being a hub for trade and as a result the perfect place for cargo to become 'lost'.   Synthesis. Secret to most who live in Wealdstone, the towns old mine, located in the nearby gorge, has been taken over by the group and rebuilt into its secondary guildhall and laboratory. This branch of the guild is operated by Biomancer Stratos.

History

Wealdstone developed quite naturally into the the large township it has become. Located on one of the main trade routes in Concordia, settlers chose the location due to its distance between the capital and Shawcross. It proximity to The Heartland Forest and a large iron deposit in The Ersatz Mountains further cemented it as a prime location for trade and work.

Points of interest

Cherryblossom Grove. The grove is a location sacred to the worship of The Wildmother. The cherry blossom at its center came from a seed taken from the elvish temple within The Heartland Forest. The area is considered a consecrated space and supposedly holds some amount of divine magic. A follower of Melora with 10+ piety who brings the components of a divine magic spells (spells from the cleric, druid, paladin or ranger spell list) of 5th-level or lower to the tree and places them at its base is able to cast the spell without using a spell slot. Once this is done, they are unable to use the tree until the next dawn.   Wildmother Manor. occasionally   Shrine of the Changebriner. Located outside the town walls on a steep hillside to the east. This shrine is the most establish place of worships to Avandra. It is primarily a wildflower garden with a statue depicting the goddess female form in a long dree with her hair held up by a metal caged headpiece. Next to this is the shrine's chapel, a large stone and wood building which is home to the shrine's caretaker, the halfling Callie High-Hill. Within is a large open space for prayer line with large windows which fill the space with natural light and view across the nearby mountains and forests.   The Windhill Farm. A large farmstead located to the north-east of the town atop a similar hillside north of the Shrine of the Changebringer. The farm is owned by the Hornraven family and its head, Torben, employs many local residents. The primary export of the farm is grain and as such the farm has three large windmills, powered by the winds channeled though the nearby gorge.   Four Season's Barracks. The home of the towns city guard and martial member of Melora's Conclave. The faction members who work out of here are overseen by Captain Davyeras Meliamne, a half-elven Autumnreaver originally from The Mothertree. Within its walls is enough space to house: the accommodation; the training supplies, including the armoury; the local prison; and finally a small place of worship to The Wildmother.

Geography

Wealdstone is located in the shadows of The Ersatz Mountains, by the boarder of The Heatland Forest. To its east, where the lad begins to rise, a large valley in the land formed during The Confluence connects the town to the base of the mountains. The rolling landscape is fertile and bountiful, as such Wealdstone is the most populate town on the boarder of The Heartland Forest.
