Eshir Azzin

the Red Mountains

Eshir Azzin, the Red Mountains, sometimes the 'Red Lands', is a nation that sits in the southern Craddle Valley, nestled in the western foothills of the Cutting Mountains. To its northwest is the nations of Mysobia, with Hydossia to the west. East, in the Cutting Mountains the remains of the Kephic Empire and Hathor to the southeast.

The name Eshir Azzin has been associated with the mountainous region of Craddle Valley since antiquity, at least back to early Ancient Siduum. It is believed Eshir Azzin means 'Red Mountains' in some lost language from the prehistoric periods.

During the height of Ancient Siduum's power the region was a province of that nation. While most provinces of that great nation kept records of the dragons that ruled, Eshir Azzin seems different. The Cult of Eternity, which currently rules the land, claims only their master, Jaivanta the Eternal One has ruled the land from its beginning. Through this claim they also exert that Eshir Azzin is Ancient Siduum continued unbroken. It is believed that the dragon and his cult destroyed evidence of any other dragon that may have once reigned in the region during the days of Ancient Siduum. Jaivanta has used this lack of knowledge to claim he is, as his moniker suggests, eternal, having ruled Eshir Azzin throughout history.

The Cult of Eternity has reigned in Eshir Azzin since at least the Lakorthian Age. Documents surviving in Lakorth libraries, show records of expeditions into the lands that are Eshir Azzin cooperate this fact. There they describe encountering the dragon and his cult and the terrors that they brought on their people. It is unknown how true these ancient texts are, as they describe a nation of subjugation at terror. Modern Eshir Azzin, under the same rulers seems docile in compression. The cult rules absolutely, with most of the nation's noble class being ranking members of the cult. The commoners join the ranks as soldiers to avoid the hard labor that exists for the poor. Even the Dwarf of the mountains seems to have falling into the cults influence.

Jaivanta, once active in the land, has not been seen in nearly a century. The cult claims he rests in his great temple, hidden in the mountains, waiting for a time he is needed to return. Scholars point to this as contradictory to the dragon's personality and constant need for attention and worship. Claim of the dragon's death, and the cults covering it up, while not common, are out there in the whispers of folks in alleys and taverns. This has led to several minor revolts, though little has come of it. The cult is to entrench in the society, even if Jaivanta is gone, they remain, controlling all.

Elf are unwelcome in Eshir Azzin. There are rewards offered by the Cult of Eternity for elf body parts. Ears and heads are the most valuable, with other parts still fetching a profit. This has led to a small market for Human body parts that can be passed off for elven. A practice the cult has done little to nothing about.
