Hodeth Alliance

The Hodeth Alliance is a loosely aligned federation of outposts and smaller colonies beyond the Hodeth Belt, including the mineral-rich worlds Zindra and Hestia, as well as outposts within the Nyx and Hepera subsystems.   The Alliance existed but was virtually unheard of until the Hestian Rush. In the 98th Cycle, a system-wide economic downturn forced the Coalition and the Boshaari Council into deep recessions and political turmoil. The effects on colonies beyond the Hodeth Belt were severe. Workers' wages were frozen or even reduced, corners were cut on environmentals, and some colonies were virtually abandonned by bankrupt Hiderid coalitions. What started as a federation of trade unions, based on the model of the Zaalan Free Tribes, soon grew into a socioeconomic momentum. The labour of those beyond the Belt was making continued spacefaring civilization possible in the first place, and the Alliance deemed its exploitation inexcusable. As a result of various political actions and strikes, the Alliance has often gone into conflict with corporations and Boshaari great houses alike.   It is believed that the Alliance has cells and influence over many outposts across Hestia, Zindra and the outer system. The Coalition describes the Alliance as "financial terrorists" who would undermine the precarious growth of Hakaria. The Boshaari take a more measured approach, often describing them as "disruptive activists".   The Alliance has usually used peaceful means of protest, however there have been several more serious clashes. In the 112th Cycle, Boshaari starminer Lensa Yelven, used several frigates built to defend Murafell Prospect against pirates and used them to wage a 2-year campaign against Boshaari and Coalition vessels alike. Yelven surrendered to Boshaari authorities after the decisive intervention of her friend and former student, Boriel Davi. Other incidents occured later on, such as Amalien Liri running blockades and delivering data and contraband to various outposts and evading Hiderid Coalition of Stars or the actions of Zaalan doctor Ergene Qalli setting up a pro-Alliance broadcast network aimed at destabilizing public opinion within the Coalition.   Most recently, in the 151st Cycle, a group of renegades, associates of the Alliance led by Phalari Davi exposed the truth about rogue corporation HexoGeni, Inc. A broadcast by analyst Khari Sare makes damning accusations against the Coalition and its corporate ethos. The weakened Alliance has been reactivating many cells in the wake of these revelations, aiming to use them as a tipping point in their struggle against the wealthy Hiderid.   Whilst the Alliance is often portrayed as a monolithic bloc, it is composed of several subfactions each disagreeing on political issues and sometimes plotting against each other. In the 135th Cycle, a Zaalan outpost is destroyed by a coordinated Coalition attack due to being suspected of hosting major Vi's Fixmen infrastructure; it transpired later that a Zaalan faction within the Alliance used the excuse to destroy another Zaalan faction and get away with it. Zarama survived and grew to become a major figure in the Zaalan Free Tribes.   The Alliance is sometimes conflated with adjacent outer groups such as the Zaalan Free Tribes or Vi's Fixmen, though these are separate organizations which sometimes band together over shared interests or concerns. The Alliance does count the Wayward Belt as one of its main cells. Interestingly, Zaalans, Allied and Fixmen operations tend to all speak Undercommon - a creole of Zaalan, Hiderid and Boshaari languages.   Much as the Alliance is vocal and many of the lower-level leaders are known to the wider public, true cell and overall leaders are generally unknown and operate in relative secrecy. Zaalan preacher and leader Xaani Falls has sometimes been falsely accused of being a high-ranking official within the Alliance, as has been Phalari Davi more recently.
