Monbaraba, the First Grand Khan

Hobgoblin Grand Khan

Monbaraba, the First Grand Khan, was a historic hobgoblin khan and war leader during the early Fourth Age. He was the first khan to unify the clans and take the title of Grand Khan of the Hobgoblin Khanate. With his leadership, the Khanate fought the Baloratak War to a standstill and signed the Treaty of Sword and Axe.

Description

Appearance

Surviving depictions of Monbaraba show him as a dour hobgoblin man, with a rounded jawline and yellow eyes. There were numerous scars visible and he had a large burn on the right side of his face. His long hair was held partially back in a bun, the rest of his brown hair falling free, with bead decorations braided all over.   His padded armor was dark and lined with fur. He wielded a simple double-sided axe.

Biography

By the time of the early Fourth Age, Monbaraba was the leading khan of Clan Gobi in the center of southern Tarteria.   Early in the Fourth Age, the orcs expanded southwards to the Orog Range, and the forces of Keeleon invaded south of the mountains. The hobgoblin clans fought back, however they were ununified and could not stand against the orcs and their orichalcum.   During this time, Monbaraba brought the other khans of Clan Altai, Clan Tarbagan, and Clan Przewal to heel by defeating them in ritual combat and claiming lordship and loyalty from them.   For the first time all hobgoblins were unified under one banner. This khanate fought back the forces of the orcs in a drawn-out campaign of ambushes and blitzes.   Fought to a standstill at great cost, the orcs pulled back to the north of the Orog Mountains. The Baloratak War was officially ended by the Treaty of Sword and Axe, the first official document of the Hobgoblin Khanate, which set the boundries of these two countries at the Orog Range.
