The
Battle in the Docks was a superpowered battle fought in one of the abandoned docks of
The Harbour in
Cape St. Joan near an abandoned shipyard. It was the second and final conflict in the campaign of vigilante team
Disequilibria to dismantle
The Crew and ended the 'war' that the rogues had declared after the
Battle in Wallace Street.
The battle also involved members of
The Nymphs and
Cape super
Faraday, both of which were brought into the fight by Disequilibria to even the odds against their opponents.
It resulted in the arrest of all remaining superpowered members of The Crew.
The Conflict
Prelude
Following the Battle in Wallace Street, Crew leader Tunguska decided that letting Disequilibria continue their campaign against his gang would be an unnecessary risk. He decided to declare 'war' on the vigilante team, using the internet and social media to spread various threats against the group.
Knowing about the upcoming meeting called by Parrot and the associated ceasefire, he then moved to resolve the conflict before said truce came into effect. Using two of his henchmen, he contacted Disequilibria members Astraeus and Vandal directly, issuing a challenge for a battle between the two group on grounds chosen by the vigilantes.
After discussing their options with Black Cat, Disequilibria decided to accept. However, knowing themselves outnumbered, they contacted both The Nymphs and Faraday, offering them a favour and full credit for the arrests of The Crew's supers respectively were they to join the battle on their side. Both third parties agreed.
Disequilibria then settled on some abandoned docks in The Harbour as their preferred site of battle.
Disequilibria and their allies arrived in the old docks first. Nymph
Stalker Girl took shelter in an abandoned building and was to warn her allies should Sanctioned supers other than Faraday approach the battle site, while Black Cat took sniper point on top of an abandoned shipyard nearby.
The Crew delayed their arrival by a considerable amount of time to ensure they would not walk into a trap where Disequilibria would simply call the Sanctioned authorities onto them without showing up to the battle.
As a ploy to ensure victory, Tunguska also ordered his fellow Crew rogues to switch costumes. This disguised some members of their team as each other and obscured the fact that they had freshly recruited
U.K. rogue
Remote to their cause. Tunguska himself hid in a nearby building from where he directed his bird swarms, while the rest of the Crew arrived in unmarked vans.
The docks were chosen both for offering relatively flat terrain with little in terms of cover and the high vantage point offered by the nearby shipyard, giving Black Cat a good spot to snipe enemies from.
The relatively high distance to both the
Capetower and the
Fairchild Security Solutions Headquarters was another factor in chosing the location.
In total, fifteen supers were involved in the ensuing battle.
For Disequilibria:
- Astraeus
- Black Cat
- Vandal
For the Nymphs:
- Ishtar
- Ceto
- Umbra
- Stalker Girl (on standby and guard duty)
For the Capes:
For the Crew:
Originally misdirecting their opponents as to their identities with the costume switch, Remote was able to launch a surprise attack on the enemy, taking control of Ishtar. As Astraeus battled Wallflower, Umbra and Ceto tried to deal with Legion and Adherent, while Vandal took on the controlled Ishtar and Tantrum in a Brute-on-Brute battle. Black Cat tried to snipe with nonlethal shots from the nearby shipyard, but soon found herself under assault by swarms of exploding birds once Tunguska figured out her position. Faraday meanwhile used her speed to battle Speedrun, the two movers trading blows at the side of the battlefield.
As the situation devolved into a chaotic melee, Vandal used her superior strength to knock out Tantrum. Now able to engage Ishtar one-on-one, the battle slowly turned in the favour of Disequilibria's alliance, as Astraeus made any air support via Tunguska's birds impossible, dissolving them all before they got close.
As Remote was knocked out, his control of Ishtar slowly subsided and the rest of the Crew was slowly overwhelmed while Black Cat and Vandal were able to identify Tunguska's hiding spot. The team then tracked the leader of the Crew down and took him into custody, with Vandal throwing him out of the building in question.
Shortly after the battle, Faraday contacted the Capetower to call for assitance with the immediate arrest of all defeated Crew members.
During his arrest, Tunguska, sure of a sentence to either lifelong prison in
West or
North Branch taunted Vandal. The young girl snapped momentarily and ripped the rogue's arm clean out. Astraeus used his healing abilities to reattach it, but could not fully undo all the damage done to nerves and bones.
All members of the Crew were arrested, while the vigilantes and rogues opposing them retreated before the authorities arrived.
Vandal's actions at the end of the battle lead to mild tensions in Disequilibria over the girl's temprament. The attack on the defeated Tunguska also permanently soured Faraday's opinion of the vigilante team.
The Nymphs secured a favour from Disequilibria which they would call in at a later date.
Most members of the Crew arrested were trialed shortly after. Most were sentenced to prison sentences of various degrees. Tunguska was sent to West Branch for life.
Faraday took credit for the arrest and received a commendation and public praise, though her tactics were criticised by many of her superiors internally.
