Tærp Mountains

Drintic: Tærp /thairph/
The Tærp Mountains1 form the eastern part of the southern highlands on the Dragonían continent, bordered by Múlíat Mountains (specifically the region of Lássordikía) to the west, the Southern Desert to the north, Nep Peninsula across a gulf to the west, Súrkniss Sea to the southwest and Derkniss Sea to the south.
Unlike the western part of the highlands, which is home to a number of different sapient species, the Tærp Mountains have been uninhabited for about nineteen thousand years, before which they were home to the carnivorous Drints who eventually migrated to the Nep Peninsula as L'ge Lake, their main source of water, became brackish due to the region turning warmer and more arid.
The Ázelans and Exíans living in Lássordikía have little interest in the Tærp Mountains, due to the relative lack of prey animals favoured by the former and being ill-suited for growing crops by the latter.

Geography

Most of the land consists of arid mountain ranges, save for a desert on the western edge and two semi-arid regions along the coast. The L'ge Lake to the northwest once covered an area twice as large, but has since shrunken and accumulated salt as the surrounding streams and rivers dried up thousands of years ago.

Fauna & Flora

The region shares some of the flora and fauna found in the Múlíat Mountains, particularly in the western part and along the coast, including Sjerg Antelopes, Úrg Trees and several species of reptiles and insects, though the populations are far smaller than those to the west. The L'ge Lake, once teeming with life, is now only a haven for hardy bacteria and fungi that can tolerate the salty water.
