The Great River

The vast river that flows for thousands of miles through the western portion of Libya, the great landmass to the south of the Known World, running through Khemri and disgorging into he Middle Sea.   The lower river - flowing from the city of Khartoum to the Middle Sea - is vital to the agriculture and economy of Khemri (without its annual flooding, the kingdom would be a barren desert). To the people around the upper river it is sacred, both symbolizing and being a practical expression of the union of the god of the Sun and the goddess of Love. The river has two major tributaries - flowing from Lake Nalubaale and Lake Tsana - and their conflux at the city of Khartoum is both symbolic of and the location of their union.   Major settlements and locations on the Great River include Sheba, Lake Tsana, Jinja, Lake Nalubaale, Khartoum and Khemri.
