The Centipede
The Centipede is a river that runs though all of New Carydam. It touches every district in the city, even the Carydam Catacombs.
It predates, of course, the present arrangement of the city. When New Carydam was a mining boomtown, it featured prominently in industry, cooling the smelters and forges that refined the ore into useable metal and providing a means of transport for that production.
There are multiple theories as to how the river first came to be called The Centipede. Some think that the name came about due to the ever-present meandering it carves throughout the city. Others, however, believe it to be derived from the many, many centipedes that swarm its banks.
