Fable - The Soldier Princess
On a dark night, as most stories go,
There was a mother running, her child in tow.
From shouts and battle did they run
Toward safety in the forest, their home undone.
Yet safety eluded them as the mother fell,
A twisting and breaking, her ankle unwell.
“Dear child take this lily and flee,
As long as you have it you will remember me.”
“If I leave you here you will surely die”
The child protested with a cry
For long did they argue, the child not giving ground
Until a soldier drunk from combat came lurking around
Urged by her mother the child ran full steam,
Into the forest, away from a scream
For many years our child did train,
Vowing vengeance, to see villains slain
