Magnus

A resident of Mirstone, Magnus was among those turned into one of Lord Demicus's vampire spawn. After Demicus's defeat at the hands of Grace Velvine and Geron 'the Sword of the Morning' Dayson, Magnus became the town's head protector, while Xander was Mirstone's official leader. The two were close friends, but had vastly differing views on the world after their experiences with Demicus. While Xander believed that the residents of Mirstone could live in peace, Magnus believed that the rest of the world would eventually seek to exterminate them out of fear of their vampiric nature.
To this end, Magnus secretly began research into vampiric lore, discovering the existence of ancient and powerful blood magics and how to become a true vampire himself, like Demicus. However, to do so he needed the blood of Demicus, which he believed could be found in the vampire's lair within the Mirstone Mines. Before Magnus could investigate the lair himself, a swarm of phase spiders were accidentally unleashed, preventing access to Magnus.
It was then that Magnus's greater fears came to pass, when the Phoenix Chapter discovered the existence of the Mirstone vampires and began a campaign to eliminate them. The Inquisitors began kidnapping members of the town and then caging and starving them until they turned feral, using them to instill fear of Mirstone in their neighboring town of Holbeck and as a result temporarily cutting off the supply of donated blood that Xander and Geron had previously managed to negotiate with the other town.
When the Party arrived in Mirstone and decided to descend into the mines to find Geron, Magnus requested they find a sample of Demicus's blood, lying to them and claiming it to be essential to a cure for his people. Upon their return, Magnus apologized for his deception and used the blood to ascend and become a true vampire. Unfortunately, doing so eliminated what was left of his humanity and Magnus became consumed by his desire to create a supreme vampire race. He escaped the Party and began working towards his goal.
He created his own force of vampire spawn loyal to his will and began hunting Curators of the Inquisition, turning them and in doing so absorbing their knowledge of vampiric lore, enabling him to uncover the secrets of the ancient vampire blood magics and become more powerful. His spawn briefly kidnapped Pietr Quickcoin while the Party were occupied at Ishurad's Vault, apparently placing a curse on Pietr that was, fortunately for the halfling, removed by Gust Ragedrum before its true purpose could be revealed.
Magnus was present at Riverside when the Party returned there and he briefly confronted one of their number in the street. He offered the Party a chance to join him as true vampires as a reward for helping him, if inadvertently, and then warned them to stay inside that night. The Party appeared to reject his offer but discovered the next morning that Magnus and his spawn had raided the Watchtower and kidnapped Synthi Holden, the local Curator.
