Ministry of Peace
The Ministry of Peace is technically the only interstellar law enforcement agency within the Union of Socialist Systems. The Peacekeepers are primarily only used to ensure that the Utopian Pillars of the Central Committee, and they rarely intervene without the direct support of local agencies. The vast majority of the agency is made up of analysts, datasmiths, psionics and educators that reside in the Chambers of Peace on Beacon. A small minority make up the actual "Peacemakers", or boots on the grounds officers of the Ministry. Most of a Peacemaker's time is spent on a singular world, building up a reputation as negotiators, arbitrators and judges. Peacemakers are rarely called into violence, and doing so is seen as the ultimate failure of the Ministry. They do not carry weapons, nor do they train with military tactics, and instead are trained in culture, history, language, religion, philosophy, and most importantly, communications. To be even considered admitance to the Ministry of Peace, one must first have spent years studying at one of the various Union universities. Then, after being accepted, they must spend up to 5 years studying at the Ministry itself. In this time, they usually work with more senior Peacemakers, and spend time traveling around Union space, and even further beyond to the various allies of the Union. There have been Peacemakers being observed living alongside the Be'Teu Order, Medina, and even Albatross. Once graduating, they are assigned a planet, a sector or a city, and spend the vast majority of their career there. The Union gives ample space for the Peacemakers to operate. Their powers are limited, and liable to oversight from the Central Committee. However, most local agencies have come to trust Peacemakers greatly, and their local influence is often large as community advisors. Peacemakers are banned from holding any kind of senior office, or military position through their careers. This is deliberate, as Peacemakers are how the Union regularly interacts with day-to-day peoples in Union Space. They are regularly given plent of funds to help uplift local communities, and their studies are later immortalized in the growing library.
Structure
The organizational structure of the Ministry of Peace is beholden to all manner of oversight, internal review, and outside council. It is a slow moving and careful process, with great pains to make sure the power of the Peacemakers is not abused. However, it is a relatively flat structure. The Peacemakers elect their own representatives, and mostly answer based on seniority or experience.
Their training makes them a remarkably well at resolving internal conflict. If needed, they work alongside the local police forces to deal with issues that cannot be resolved purely with words.
Public Agenda
The Ministry of Peace is solely dedicated to the ongoing cooperation among the people of the Union of Socialist Systems. They are in part mediator, investigator, and political officer. They spread the message of the Union, all the while using their vast resources and connections to Beacon to help raise the standards of living in their local sectors. They work to enforce the Utopian Pillars, and thus work at the request of Unions, Syndicates, worker's cooperatives.
