Medium
A medium, as recognized by the Academia Ars Magicka et Mundana, is a Magick wielder with the unique ability to cast their consciousness to a different location than the one their body is currently physically inhabiting.
Mediums range drastically in power, scope and affinity: some are merely capable of projecting their consciousness to the next room of the house they are physically in while others can project theirs to far-away places.
Magick wielders born with this ability are rare and most that possess it quickly recognize the limits of their gift but there are cases of mediums with an affinity strong enough they can cast their consciousness past the boundaries of the Prime World Disk.
Such mediums can, by merit of their gift, communicate with beings from other Realms like devils from Hell or the restless dead of the Lymbaugh and use this for divinatory purposes.
The most powertful mediums are able to throw their minds to the farthest Realms and even beyond that, going as far as being able to perceive the entirety of the Cosmos which has enabled mediums employed by the Academia Ars Magicka et Mundana to prove the existence of the World Skull and many other such previously untested hypotheses about the nature of the Cosmos.
Some academics still doubt the accuracy of the perception of these mediums; the nature of their gift makes mediums susceptible to developing a mental condition known as Cosmic Infirmity that is characterized by mental instability, loss of contact with reality and an inability to function in their everyday life.
Those who suffer from this condition the worst claim to have seen the Abyss as it swallows the Cosmos a little more each day and state that they now cannot think of anything else at all.
Projection is sometimes defined as being part Divination and part Conjuration as well as being of the O-Type of the Fons Type classification system.
