Riverlanders

People of Riverlands are a hardy folk that survived many tyrannies and calamities. No matter if they are Humans, Elves, or Dwarves. Ever since the races met, they knew there would be conflict on their lands but even after they jumped to their throats, trying to kill one another when a powerful enemy would appear, they were ready to forget the past for a moment and fight for a common cause. Riverlanders can be found almost everywhere in the region, be it Olvoe, Mathras or Isila. The exception is for example Sahadrun but many of them there use the local customs too.

Naming Traditions

Mainly humans use naming traditions that sound similar to our world's Spanish or Portuguese names.

Ideals

They are fixed on their past. Be it surviving the tyranny of the Demon King, oppression in the Second Age, Godswar or Third Age, Kingdoms, promises made or past deeds. Their fixation started many conflicts in the region, most famous between Mathras and Isila over Christobal Promises, where the mortal emperor promised the Immortal Luvic that he would return ancient elven lands back to the elves after they defeated the Demon King. That never happened and a whole war began due to them being unfulfilled. The people will remember your actions and judge you on them, making it harder for criminals or falsely accused to repair their reputations. If they do not have predispositions to your race, Riverlanders might treat you well, giving you water, food or shelter if you are in need. The people do not tend to be overly religious, however, they are very anti-blasphemy towards their local religions, thus someone badmouthing the Sunlord in Mathras or Translucent Traveler in Sahadrun might get a beating from the locals or a visit by the local law and thrown to prison.

Customs

People love to work as much as free time. Using one hour each day, when Sol is at its highest point as a Siesta, when all working people take about one hour to rest, sleep or do some very light work. The temperatures can be unforgiving thus a Siesta sometimes is mandated by the local governments to not overwork their citizens to death. The people kiss each other on the cheek as a friendly greeting or goodbye, sometimes to strangers too. Due to the temperatures, they have very late dinners, many eat their main meal with the family when the sun is down. Men tend to have beards but commonly mustaches, while females tend to have long hair. The lands they live on have a lot of rivers and lakes, much more than any other region that size. Thus, they tend to learn swimming at a young age as well as using a boat. Most of the social gatherings take place near water, be it on the coasts or lakes. Holidays were a contest is made tend to be around the same theme.
