Duke Janis Tyrell

Janis is the patriarch of House Tyrell and holds the title of Duke, answering only to Empress Eunisia Rosewood. He is the oldest living head of the Four Great Houses and has served since Eunisia's mother was Empress. During the War of Four Suits, he sided with the Crown without any hesitation and helped House Rosewood crush the rebellion.

Janis is a good man and a fair ruler. During his tenure as Duke, the quality of life in Spatengrove increased tremendously and the Empire's overall wealth significantly increased as well. Though he is well-liked within his territory, there are others outside of Spatengrove who consider him too old to properly carry out his duties.

Janis is in his twilight years and his age is clear to see. Although he remains active by hunting, riding, and tending to his garden, time has already taken its toll on him.

Janis was once a formidable warrior, favoring maces and flails. He has long since retired from tourney and battlefield alike.

As a noble, Janis received the highest level of education available to him in the Empire. He displayed a particular talent for economics and agriculture studies and used those talents to mold Spatengrove into the agricultural center of the Empire.

Janis supported House Rosewood during the War of Four Suits by supplying the Crown with troops, sundries, and other supplies, allowing them to stay in the fight against overbearing odds.

Perhaps as a result of his age, Janis is much more traditional and set in more conservative Empire practices, including a strict belief in human supremacy and the noble hierarchy. Because of these beliefs, he is also incredibly loyal to the Crown, believing it his duty as Duke to support, protect, and advise the reigning Empress as best as he can.

Janis' passions include hunting and going on long walks and horseback rides with his wife Rosamund. He also enjoys raising hounds and working in the garden and fields.

Janis dislikes roundabout conversation and small talk. He dislikes winter and often takes seasonal vacations south to Diamondfeld and the Heartland to escape the biting winds coming in from the Alabaster Peaks.
