Duke Jonah Bellgrave

Jonah Bellgrave is the patriarch of House Bellgrave and holds the title of Duke, answering only to Empress Eunisia Rosewood. He rose to his current rank after betraying his former liege lord, Duke Scorpius Brutoris, during the War of Four Suits. After realizing that the rebellion was doomed to fail, Jonah took matters into his own hands, and in an effort to preserve his own House, agreed to work with House Rosewood and House Tyrell to bring the rebellion to an end.

Public opinion on Jonah outside of Diamondfeld is mixed. Some approve of him, thinking his rise to power was a well deserved reward, praising him for turning on his clearly mad liege lord. Others spurn him as a snake without honor or loyalty. Most are simply apprehensive of him and question whether he will someday betray the Empress' trust as well.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Jonah is healthy and in phenomenal physical condition for a man of his age. He follows a strict diet and regularly joins his men while they drill to ensure he stays in peak form.

Special abilities

Although it has been some time since Jonah stepped foot on the battlefield himself, he possesses an innate talent for magic and has used it to his advantage in the past.

Mental characteristics

Education

As a noble, Jonah received the highest level of education available to him in the Empire. He also displayed an innate talent for the arcane arts and spent several years in Clovergarde studying at the Akademie der Hexer.

Accomplishments & Achievements

The Drowning of Castle Valkmer

His plan to divert the Adder into Castle Valkmer after Duke Scorpius had barricaded himself in was the masterstroke that brought the rebellion to an end.

Intellectual Characteristics

Military Genius

Jonah is exceedingly talented in the art of war and excels when it comes to strategizing, as evidenced by his near singlehanded defeat of Duke Brutoris during the War of Four Suits.

Morality & Philosophy

Jonah is strict, severe, and cold, carrying out his duties with calculated impunity. As the one in charge of producing a large portion of the Empire's material wealth, he has no tolerance for sloth and holds all who serve him to the highest standard.

Personality Characteristics

Likes & Dislikes

Jonah enjoys reading in his spare time, mostly texts on strategy and the militaries of foreign countries. He also has a soft spot for cats, as evidenced by the many that roam Cair Diamant.

Jonah dislikes cluttered spaces, tardiness, and overly sweet foodstuffs.

Social

Family Ties

Jonah's wife Lara passed away from illness several years ago and although many others have encouraged him to remarry, he has stubbornly refused to take a new wife.
Jonah has two children, Minerva and Tybalt. His relationships with both his children are strained, at best.
  • Minerva, the eldest, is hot-headed and rebellious, quick to question her austere father.
  • His relationship with Tybalt is even more strained. Tybalt is a bastard he had with an unknown woman and is a stain on his otherwise clean record.

Religious Views

Although he is not overly devout, Jonah observes and respects the approved religious practices within the Aurelian Empire.

Social Aptitude

Although he is not overly charismatic, Jonah's presence is felt whenever he enters a room. His voice is deep and commands respect from those who hear it. He speaks in direct, militaristic sentences and spares no time on pleasantries or small talk.

Wealth & Financial state

House Bellgrave controls the gold and diamond mines within the Empire, and enjoys proportional wealth and prestige.
