Anderselt

Town in Ione

Anderselt is a small riverside town residing in the west of Ghia. Due to being the furthest upstream settlement on the Jhio River, Anderselt has primarily become a fishing town that utilizes the nearby town of Kronbruck to transport most of its catch to the rest of Ione as a significant transport network begins there as a result of the farms.

Demographics

Anderselt has a recorded population of 857 individuals all of which are human. Following the direction of the Alarch, only the human population of the city is recorded. Extremely few non-human individuals are ever seen in Anderselt, usually only stopping during their journey down the Jhio River on their way to Ornamen.

Government

Anderselt is governed by theocratic rule similar to all settlements within Ione and the municipal government is controlled by an Eparch who is appointed through Cionecic's Divine Selection. The Eparch reports to the provincial representative, the Exarch, who resides in Absolus as it is the provincial capital of Ghia.

Industry & Trade

Anderselt primarily provides resources from the Jhio River such as fish, fresh water, and the stained glass from Jewel Lake to the rest of Ione. They tend to bring in crops from, and transport their fish to, Kronbruck a short distance away. Majority of their simple tools such as rods, nets, and hooks are made within town, though more expensive and specialized tools are imported from Fortuna.

History

Anderselt has a long and simple history of being a fishing town and as a result people originating from the town are assumed to also be simple folks looking for a simple life. The town is also known to produce the lowest number of chosen on average compared to all the other notable settlements within Ione.   Despite being older than Newbridge which exists further down the Jhio River, a bridge across was never constructed. During the initial consideration of the creation of a bridge Alarch Ceredig Snyder clearing, stating that being so close to the forest could allow individuals to potentially impact the results of the trials in the forest. This decision was mirrored by Alarch Peohthelm Palmer where a bridge across the Jhio river was eventually built. Despite residing within the Ionean border walls villagers were still given methods of access to the river's docks to continue their trade.

Points of interest

  • [Anderselt Fishing Docks] - The Anderselt Fishing Docks pull in the majority of fish for the nation despite the towns small size.
  • [The Floundering Fish Tavern] - A tavern built up against the borderwall that is frequented by fishermen at the end of the working day.

Architecture

Similar to most of the Northern settlments in Ione, Anderselt was originally crafted from wood and underwent a revitalization to stone and eventually to marble, though being one of the smaller cities the furthest away from Arnsrath they were one of the last to do so. Some of the older stone buildings still remain standing, most notably those making up a large portion of the fishing docks that reside outside of the wall.   As the town is rather small some of the gothic architecture residing in other cities is present but not included on the majority of buildings. As a result the town hall and the local chapel stand out in comparison to most of the other buildings.
