Coca-Cola Country

"We hope that we can better serve the world by being more a part of it."
— Ellen Peters, first Press Secretary for Coca-Cola Country

Demographics

Most of the population are Caucasian, with then a mix of Black and Latino inhabitants. A majority of them are working class within the country itself.

Government

Coca-Cola Country is run by a Board of Directors, but then allow citizens to elect prominent Public Works positions. Incidentally, the Board also decides if these individuals are allowed to run for re-election.

Defences

A well maintained local militia, complete with defense vehicles and drone patrols at day and night. The former Texas territory has kept a lot of it's gun culture in the populace.

Industry & Trade

Coca-Cola Country solely survives with the popularity of Coca-Cola products, with a tiny bit of income from the resort area.

Infrastructure

As Coca-Cola Country began to take over a major portion of the southern Houston suburbs, they've added a resort area, a bottling plant, and a distribution center for syrups, juices, and other products. One of the best maintained parts of the country is the roads that travel through and out, precisely because of how tied it is to their economy.

Assets

The nation itself benefits from being the current headquarters of The Coca-Cola Company, which now owns all the land and most of the businesses within the country. Since Coca-Cola and it's acquired subsidiaries are still popular throughout the world, it is one of the richest nations in the world merely by being the headquarters of such a successful brand.

History

At first, Coca-Cola was uncertain if the cases for a sovereign nation owned by a corporation would pass through the courts, but after the successe of Disney Nation, they were certain this could be a good strategy for overall wealth. However, they acted just too late to start acquiring land around Atlanta. Surprisingly, the Coca-Cola Company quickly acted in Sugarland, where the subsidiary Minute Maid was placed.
Outbidding some buyers while giving handsome payouts to long time land owners, by 2026 The Coca-Cola Company announced its plans to move to Sugarland with Minute Maid. Citizens sensing the inevitable coordinated protest efforts including demonstrations stopping business in multiple bottling plants, as well as boycotting Coca-Cola. Unfortunately this barely did a dent in the project, and by November of 2026, Coca-Cola Country was officially a sovereign nation.
Using blockbusting tactics in surrounding suburban areas in a way that didn't break fair housing laws, Coca-Cola continued to expand its land ownership, and hence expand their nation's borders. In a couple of decades they transferred a large bottling plant into their borders, as well as all much of their soda syrup and concentrate juice production. Throughout all this time, they offered job transfers and new positions within the country, with "higher pay" due to citizens not having to pay taxes. The Coca-Cola Company also offered inexpensive housing managed by the company. They made sure to pay double wages to teachers and public workers for the first decade, in order to attract the cream of the crop. They also discretely continued to acquire smaller beverage companies in order to keep profits high amidst the first few years of protest. All of that resistance slowed down once scarier corporate nations as well as the seemingly noble intentions of Coca-Cola Country distracted them.
Over time, the Board of Directors slowly stopped investing as much into the country itself, once they could force employees to live in the nation. Although the working class residents never quite reached international poverty standards, by the 2090s most were economically stuck in a nation that no longer prioritized any of their needs. Yet even more people would go to work for the company, because of the guaranteed housing and the allure of a "tax-free" pay.
On Christmas Eve of 2102, The Fighters of Greed led an attack on a syrup production plant with a fertilizer based bomb. However the bomb's strength was underestimated, destroying some of the residential areas and killing several guards in the process. From then on, Coca-Cola Country has been able to garner an amount of sympathy, having been the only corporate nation having incurred a deadly terrorist attack.

Architecture

A lot of the housing for the residents was based on the classic suburban appeal of a 2 or 3 bedroom house with a modest lawn. Many that were newly built were put on small lots, keeping neighborhoods condensed. The corporate buildings are repurposed older buildings of Sugarland and other cities, some even having been old apartment buildings.
