Demographics

The majority of the population is descended from the African Americans that had called these former South Side Chicago neighborhoods home, but not are a diverse array of Chimazons descended from former Americans. The majority of the population would be classified as lower middle class, with a thin level of stable middle class and a very visible upper class that are the families of original investors from the 21st century was well as other investors that have brought in an influx of cashflow to the country in order to obtain the coveted status.

Government

Corporate dictatorship. Ruled by the Board of Directors, who personally select the municipal positions throughout the city.

Defences

There is a strong border patrol along some of the highways and entrances on I-55, I-90, I-94, and along the entrances on Cicero. Midway Airport in particular is surrounded by tall walls other than the runways for the shipping planes and helicopters. A combination of their own military, a infamous police force, and hiring of mercenaries for certain shipments, keeps the total area of Chimazon safe.

Industry & Trade

Chimazon is the main production and shipping area for all of the goods still sold by Amazon. Since Chimazon is essentially a country formed merely for the benefit of Amazon, it is a profit focused industrial and services based economy. Certain products are constructed within the borders of Chimazon, specifically garments, electronics, and smaller furnishings and decorations. In addition, Chimazon offers its shipping port to smaller corporate nations for their goods, for payment and also political allegiance.

Infrastructure

Chimazon is very landlocked, so outside of the appropriated Midway airport, everything is very tall and narrow. A compact city, but highly updated and digitized. Every building is owned by Amazon, and is updated to give citizens the benefits of the Alexa AI for their home. Power source is mostly solar, and Chimazon has a tenuous treaty with the United States of America and Canada to receive water from Lake Michigan. Chimazon water works is constantly improving their water recycling system in hopes to become as independent from the United States as possible, specifically to be independent from Chicago proper.

Assets

Being the current headquarters of the international company Amazon, Chimazon is able to provide everything a person would need from groceries to creature comforts to event live entertainment that is also streamed out through the internet. The most popular exports are home personal technologies and inexpensive garments.

History

The forming of Chimazon started in earnest in 2022, when Jeff Bezos proposed to his shareholders and board that Amazon could reduce a lot of their production cost in the long run by becoming an independent nation with more control on the cost of labor and production on some of their products. Bezos set his sights on Chicago, particularly the cheaper real estate along the South Side of the city. However, he paid multiple local real estate investors to buy these swaths of land for speculative investment first, in order to keep the eyes of the public away from his plan. In the meantime, Bezos also set up "gentleman's deals" with local politicians in order for them to not pass any legislation that would hinder the power in the Executive Order passed in 2022. With the help of their delay and the secretive collecetions of the majority of the south side, combined with neighbor support efforts based in local churches and community centers, in 2032 Bezos began construction of what he originally the City of Amazon, and declared sovereignty. Despite local backlash, even escalating to terrorists attacks, the City of Amazon finally could start saving money for the company late 2035.
In 2042, the Board renamed the burgeoning city Chimazon, to appeal to locals and to avoid the appearance of cultural appropriation of the previous denomyn of Amazonians. By then, surrounding area began to lose value, and many property owners were selling their land to Amazon in order to better their own lives and receive payouts that were double what the land was worth on the open market.
Most of the existing city structures were complete as of 2061. Its citizenry at the time were now former US citizens that current worked to maintain the company of Amazon as well as employees for the newly formed city services for Chimazon.

Architecture

All the residential structures are tall skyscrapers, typically 60 stories or more, with walkways across. Most of the buildings are designed to be honest of the steel frame supporting it, with large tinted windows looking out to the city. Grouped around the residential areas are minimalist style hybrids of office buildings on top of garment production buildings. Most of the buildings are of the smooth, sleek futuristic design that was popular in the early 21st century. All of the former buildings that would have been the homes and businesses that were of these south side neighborhoods--Englewood, Chatam, Gage Park--are completely demolished.

Geography

The overbuilt city is constantly fighting the former swamp base that the old Chicago city was based on. Chimazon's engineers have hidden much of what was natural that was left when first declared sovereign over a century ago.
