Duel of Dussan's Crux Military Conflict in The Fruit of War | World Anvil

Duel of Dussan's Crux (Doo-SAHN)

The Duel of Dussan's Crux refers to a magical duel between the estranged Sephe Dosneidr and Tieorise Mamnafetche over the titular Ega Root at the meeting-point of the Central, Northeast, and Eastern Theaters of the War of the Six, roughly halfway between the Rivens and the Temple at Willowbreak Field, outside Fort Bisabie.   Their goal was to deprive the other -- each seen by the opposing forces in the area as the greatest threat -- of the Ega they and other channelers would need in upcoming engagements in the area. While it was not initially intended as a one-on-one duel, ultimately it was deemed safest / the most economical to send Mamnafetche and Dosneidr alone.

The Conflict

Battlefield

The pair fought over the Ega Root of Dussan's Crux, specifically in the meadow there.

The Engagement

Both combatants used their particular ability to channel immense quantities of Ega to great effect, using extremely large-scale spellwork in both offense and defence. It was a true duel in that there were no other participants, making it a unique conflict in the war overall.

Outcome

Destruction of (vacated) Fort Bisabie.

Aftermath

Although the Root has begun to slowly heal -- in large part thanks to the Willowbreak Root neaby -- it has done so poorly, and is a shade of its former self that causes discomfort and sickness to channelers who visit it.

Historical Significance

Coincidentally, and tragically, the duel took place on the estanged couple's originally-intended wedding day.

In Literature

The event was commemorated in Akasien Ttarvek's poem The Duel of Dussan's Crux. It is unclear which came first, the name or Ttarvek's poem.
