Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

Traditional Dwarf society is built on a caste system. Any two dwaves are free to couple and have children, but the child adopts the caste of the same sex parent. A worker male can marry a noble female, and their male child will grow up in finery and gilded halls; but he will go out into the world as a worker.

Common Dress code

Clothing depends on caste and varies by quality. Large beards are status symbols for dwarves and while both male and female grow beards at the same rate, female dwarves who interact with society outside their clan will often shave both to appeal more to common standards and so that their gender is more easily determined by outsiders (and as such, a shaven dwarf is often viewed as emasculated or effeminate).

Art & Architecture

Stone sculpture and statuary on a massive scale dominate dwarven cities

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Dwarves are a hardy people with no inhibitions over alcohol and so they build a tolerance from a young age. There is a misconception that all Dwarves are drunks, while the opposite is true (they are alcoholics by anyones definition though). They hold their drink very well, but because they are by nature a loud and rowdy people that will toss back mugs of mead; they are perceived as drunks.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Dwarves inter their dead in massive underground mausoleums built by the clan the family belongs to, buried with their family members
