Osor (ʲosor)

Osor is a small island in the Korabovi Islands, very close to the larger island of Otok. Osor was completely depopulated over a century ago by a plague. Today, it is a ghost island, with only the Crveni Lighthouse showing any sign of activity. The final acts of the keepers of Crveni were to destroy the causeway that connected Osor to Otok, and to petition the goddess of the lighthouse to seal the island off, to prevent the plague from spreading to Otok and beyond. Since that day, boats trying to land on the island have been repelled by the light of Crveni, which fills those who see it or are touched by it with an irresistable compulsion to avoid landing.

Before the plague, the largest settlement on Osor was the village of Čuvar. Like the rest of the island, the village is now empty and abandoned. No human has been spotted from across the strait from Otok in the century since the island was sealed, but strange lights do appear in the windows of the empty houses. During the day, black birds can be seen perched among the ruins, and some believe these are the souls of those who were trapped on the island when Crveni sealed it away from the rest of the world.

Notable Spirits

The goddess of Crveni is the only major spirit known to inhabit the island. Since the plague, the island has been haunted by strange lights at night and an uncanny flock of black birds during the day. The island has not been visited by living people for over a century, and whatever small gods once lived there have most likely been forgotten by all save the dead, making them ghosts themselves.

Geography

Osor is a long, thin island that stretches 21 miles from north to south, and is almost three miles across at its widest point. The island has many low hills, with the highest reaching nearly two thousand feet in height. An old road winds down the length of the island, from the ruins of the causeway at the northern tip, to the haunted lighthouse at the extreme south end. Several villages were once connected to this road.

Ecosystem

The island is covered in a variety of evergreen vegetation, such as myrtle, holm oak, and laurel. There are no known large animals native to Osor, and since the sealing of the island it has been avoided by birds and sea animals alike. A variety of black birds can be seen flying around the island by day, but it seems likely that these are not natural animals.
