Trinacria (triː.na.krí.a)
Trinacria is the largest of the Rasrathnii Islands, and home to the main population of Cyclopes in the world. These one-eyed giants are notoriously dangerous to visitors, and only their disinclination to cooperate with each other prevents them from being a danger to people beyond their shores. There are no settlements or communities on Trinacria except for one dedicated to the god Heliopeios the Sun-Eyed, located high on the slopes of the volcano Thalupu. The rest of the population lives alone, either in caves or simple houses they have built. They raise sheep and goats for food, and will frequently quarrel with each other about the ownership of flocks. Stealing livestock from each other is a common practice, and the conflicts that ensue are the Cyclopes most common interaction. When other people find themselves on Trinacria, usually as the result of a shipwreck or navigation error, the Cyclopes are quick to capture and devour them, as they delight in the change in diet and do not wish to share the bounty with anyone else.
Notable Spirits
The island is the domain of the god Heliopeios the Sun-Eyed, eldest child of Asterop the Star-Eyed, the mother of the Cyclopes. He resides within Thalupu, where he has his forge. A temple to Heliopeios has been built upon the mountainside, and the Cyclopes who reside there have adopted a way of life different from their herding cousins. Heliopeios is a god of smithing and crafting, and spends his time making weapons, armor, and strange devices, which he hoards beneath the earth. The Cyclopes of the temple have chosen to emulate their god, and they too spend most of their time crafting weapons and armor. They use these armaments to dominate the island, seizing whatever they need to support the temple from the Cyclopes below. Sometimes, they will even trade with outsiders who have goods they require, granting them tokens of safe passage from the lesser Cyclopes. In the language of the Cyclopes, the devotees of Heliopeios are known as the Hesiodes, while the other residents of the island are called the Homerides.
Geography
Trinacria is shaped roughly like an arrowhead pointed southwards. It is extremely hilly, and most of the land has been used by the Cyclopes to graze livestock. There are three mountain ranges that run the length of the island, going roughly from north to south. The highest of these is on the eastern portion of the island, where the great volcano Thalupu releases a near-constant stream of smoke. There are several other active volcanos on the island as well, and eruptions are a common occurance. Several rivers run between the mountain ranges before draining into the sea, mostly on the southern coast.
