World Gate
The World Gates are a pair of magical artifacts which enable travel between The Old World and The New World. One Gate exists in each world and either may be activated to create a portal to the other by exposing it to sufficient magical energy. Travel between the Gates is instantaneous and has no apparent ill effects, aside from mild disorientation. The Old World Gate was discovered in Ifri by the Atabean Trading Company, which subsequently relocated it to the Free City of Karstadt. The New World Gate, meanwhile, lies in the settlement of Gatefall, near the Gatefall Obelisk. It is unknown who constructed the Gates or why, but they are quite old, dating back at least to the Age of Imperium.
The World Gates are constructed from an unknown type of black stone, which is nearly impervious to physical damage. The two are identical in design, each consisting of a horseshoe-shaped monolith inscribed with glyphs in an unknown Language. Their creators apparently intended for them to be partially buried, as doing so significantly increases the structures' stability without interfering with their operation. Each Gate is approximately 35 feet tall, 20 feet wide at its widest point, and 2 feet thick. When activated, the Gates shimmer with a faint silver light and a portal appears in the center of the structure, through which the other terminus' surroundings are clearly visible. Currently, travel through the Gates is regulated by the Gatefall Company, but is permitted for citizens of every Nation, as well as most trading companies and private interests.
