Phandalin
Phandalin is a small, frontier town located to the southeast of the city of Neverwinter and to the northwest of The Triboar Trail in the Forgotten Realms setting of Dungeons & Dragons. Once a thriving local mining community, it fell into ruin after its mine, the Wave Echo Cave, was lost a few centuries ago. Phandalin has been resettled and is on the cusp of a new era of prosperity, due in part to the recent rediscovery of the fabled mine.
Appearance and Layout: Phandalin is a rustic town with buildings made primarily of wood and stone. It has the rough-and-ready look of a place built by pioneers and settlers who used the materials readily available to them. The town is built on the ruins of a much older settlement, and some remnants of the original stonework can be seen in the newer structures. The main thoroughfare is lined with homes, shops, and taverns catering to travelers and miners.
Inhabitants: Phandalin's residents are a mix of humans, dwarves, elves, and other common races of the Forgotten Realms. They are hardy folk, accustomed to the dangers of living on the frontier. There is a sense of optimism in Phandalin, as the townsfolk hope that the resurgence of the mine will bring wealth and growth to their community.
Politics and Power: The town lacks a formal government, but a townmaster oversees civic matters. The lack of strong leadership has allowed the Redbrand Ruffians, a local bandit group, to exert influence over the town. The presence of the Redbrands creates an undercurrent of fear and tension among the populace.
Economy: Phandalin's economy is on the brink of transformation, with the prospecting and mining of the nearby Wave Echo Cave promising to bring new wealth to the area. Aside from mining, the town's economy is supported by farming, hunting, and trading.
