City of Daynmor

The City of Daynmor is the capital and largest city of the County of Daynmor in the Kingdom of Aria.  It is a large coastal city of 28,000 souls, mostly Human but with a significant Halfling and Gnome community within the city.  There are three streams that have been turned into canals that run all the way through the city, giving barge and narrow boat access to almost the entire area.  A high barrier island is located just a mile off the shore, and provides a wind and wave shelter for the harbor front.  Hundred of ships and boats can be found in the sheltered water on any given day, waiting to load or unload cargo at all hours.   Daynmor is a bustling, busy city.  Ships from all over the world, river barges from all over Aria, and wagons coming from all over the County bring goods, people and money to the city while its docks, warehouses and shops fill those same vessels with local products, produce and material to be marketed all over the world.  This sort of dynamic environment has a dark side, as well.  Crime is rife in the city, and there are dens of thieves, cut-throats and vagabonds in many of its darker alleys and corners.  Rumors exist of an secret slave trade that exists, wherein orphans and wastrels from all over the seedier parts of the city are kidnapped and shipped to lands far to the north where they are sold into bondage.  Stories are also told of the abduction of pretty young girls and boys that are drugged and sold into servitude for their bodies to illicit brothels and whore houses on far southern islands for their weight in gold.

Government

The seat of the County government is the great tower keep known for centuries as La Donjon

Defences

The city is patrolled by a Watch consisting of five companies of armed and armored men, covering both the walls and gates and patrolling the streets at night.

Industry & Trade

A large ship building industry exists on the waterfront, as do many warehouses and shipping wharfs.  There are tanneries and fish packing houses located just outside the city walls on the west side of the city that do a brisk business.  Hundreds of carts and wagons roll through the city on a daily basis to unload their cargoes unto ships bound for all corners of the world.

Infrastructure

City is bisected by three wide, stone-lined canals that allow boat traffic to nearly every section of the city.  Two sets of city walls and gates protect the city, and all are well maintained and constantly manned.  Roads are paved, most buildings are stone or brick, and the waterfront is surprisingly clean.

History

The City of Daynmor has had a very troubled past.  There was a major orc invasion just over a century earlier that lasted for more than ten years and devestated the region and the city.  Since then, no attack has happened at the city, but the memory is still fresh and the residents take their security very seriously.

Tourism

Daynmor is full of excellent inns and taverns that cater to visitors and residents alike, as well as many less-savory places like brothels, gambling dens and fencing houses.  Crime is rather
