Zimnii Gorod

Zimnii Gorod is the settlement located near the Caldar River where the Junn Harr winter their herds of horses, cattle, sheep and camels.  It begins to fill up with annual residents in early December, and is nearly empty by the end of February.  At its peak population, it can contain as many as 20,000 Junn Harr residents living in their araks on the grassy wind-swept plains of the north bank of the Caldar just south of the Kemenya Gory (Stone Mountains).   There are almost no permanent stone structures at Zimnii Gorod, outside of those built by non-Junn traders and craftsmen who cater to the annual migrations of the semi-nomadic Junn Harr.  All Junn dwellings are simple stone foundations and hearths where the traditional araks of the Junn Harr are erected each winter to shelter the families from December till March, when they begin their trek north once again.   The annual migration brings the Junn Harr people to the banks of the Caldar where ample winter grasses and browse provides fodder and feed for the herds, and Auroch, Mastodon, elk (incluing Megaloceros) and bison are hunted and preserved for the journey north in the spring.  Trade with the western extremes of Imesse and Cobal is also a highlight of the season, as is a heightened sense of caution and security for the seasonally-specific bands of roving Orcs.

Demographics

Almost exclusively Junn Harr, with fewer than 150 non-Junn residents inhabiting the very few permanent stone structures in the area.

Government

Each family or tribe policies its own residents, and crime is a rare thing indeed. Junn Har hold hospitality close to sacred and do not tolerate unnecessary violence lightly.

Industry & Trade

The few dozen stone buildings that exist here are built and operated by traders and craftsmen from Cobal and Imesse that travel up-river to trade and cater to the needs of the migrating Junn Harr.

Infrastructure

The city is a maze of packed-earth paths, roads and alleys surrounding stone foundations of araks that are the only permanent aspect of Junn Har habitation in the region. When the Junn arrive and when they leave, the only thing there are these foundations and the cooking hearths assocaited with the araks. There are numerous streams and small rivers providing fresh water, and latrines are located at very specific areas that can be buried or burned at the end of the winter season.

Points of interest

Unlike its northern counterpart, Letnii Gorod located nearly 800 miles to the north, there is a greater volume of trade and traffic on the Caldar River. There are several traditionally "Caldarian" inns and taverns at Zimnii Gorod, all offering rooms, services and meals to travellers to the temporary city. There are also many traders and buyers of livestock, horses and wool that look to do a brisk business with the Junn during the winter months.   On the eastern edge of the settlement is a cluster of stone and timber buildings known as Tillmans Corner where a busy trade in livestock from the Junn herders is conducted and shipped east on the Caldar River via large barges. There are also two roads leading east away from the settlement, one following the course of the Caldar and the other moving uphill through a low, easy pass that cuts through the Stone Mountains and ends near the headwaters of the Manito River in Cobal. These roads are the primary means of transporting large numbers of livestock or wool that cannot be transported by river.
