Il'Bisal

Il'Bisal Theme:

Light from the surface does not permeate to the trenches of The Underlake, but the soft glow of jellylights illuminate the way for the Il'Bisalais. This people, who hail from various races, refer to themselves as the Il'Bisal and are united by their deep-rooted cultural ties. They reside in the ancient Drathunae metropolises of Il'Drathune (pictured above) and Il'Arbor, which are located in the deepest trenches of Lakes Ganymede and Trost, respectively.
"My only wish is for the survival of my people. If not that, then the survival of our way of life."
— Jellylight Codex, Lady of the Lake
The Il'Bisal are not politically inclined, but are driven by a desire to preserve their history and culture. With the survival of the Drathunae species in question due to collapsing birthrates, they have erected numerous monuments, mausoleums, and codices that serve as a testament to their legacy. Despite their isolation from the surface world, the Il'Bisal make frequent contact with outsiders who are intrigued by their unique way of life, eager to trade, share and teach. Due to their proximity to Theopolis, Il'Bisal take a unique interest in Sainthood in as politically neutral of a way as is possible.
Lady of the Lake
Jellylight Comb
No new Drathunae births have been recorded since 300 CF; although the species is long-lived, their visibility is becoming increasingly rare. Surviving members are highly regarded by the other inhabitants of the region, who look up to them as wise sages. Il'Bisalais state that they do not have a leader, only referencing a "caretaker" they call the Lady of the Lake. Although this figure is seldom seen, evocative portraits depict a large Drathunae bathed in the glow of un-hatched eggs' light. Despite her protestations that she is not suited to leadership, her motherly persona brings comfort to the Il'Bisal. The Lady of the Lake resides in the Jellylight Comb, which visitors have called an underwater palace, with her retainers.
Deep One Translator
Skald
Drathunae like the Lady of the Lake require interpreters in order to speak with non bioluminescent beings. Deep Ones have inherent physiology that allow them to convert sound speech to light, though its output can be a bit slow. Skald is the personal interpreter and bard for the Lady of the Lake- as a Fire Genasi, they are able to modulate their flames in order rapidly communicate with with both speakers of Dratharr (Drathunae langauge) and surface tongues.
Fallen City of Tuwaang
Mahindra
Though the Il'Bisal have no formal military presence, Mahindra, a sea elf fighter, has taken it upon himself to lead a militia to protect the Jellylight Comb and the city of Il'Drathune. He hails from the fallen sea elf empire of Tuwaang from the deeps of the Krakena Ocean, though doesn't speak of what happened to his former homeland.
Il'Bisal Trader on the shore of lake trost
by Unknown
Yesna
The Il'Bisal perform considerable trade with various factions through visitation of the lake cities of the Cometfall Theocracy or surfacing on the shores of Lake Trost. Caravans are typically managed by Yesna, a Simic-Hybrid inquisitive rogue. As a construct of Organic Artifice made by a joint effort between Ilyena's Guildmasters and the Yuan-Ti Empire, Yesna was designed to have state of the art language skills, cunning, quick reflexes, dancing ability, and beauty.
Il'Arbor
Bagaskoro
The Il'Bisal have a network of underwater caverns that connect to the Krakena Ocean through Il'Arbor, where treasures from the pelagic depths are found and traded. Information is one of the key exports of the region. Despite their suspicious demeanor, Il'Bisalais are known to absolutely keep their word when confidentiality is promised. Their secret-keeper, Bagaskoro, enforces this by swiftly 'removing' any locals who do not properly follow customs.
