Druss the Destroyer on a quest to find new meaning in his life

Druss was a soldier, born into a family of soldiers and raised to be a soldier by his grandfather. Hard-working and disciplined he did what was asked of him even when he was assigned to be a quartermaster behind the lines, a posting he despised. Then came The Battle Of Splintered Shields. Now a Lieutenant in charge of an entire corps of men, he was expected to lead from the rear. To his grandfather and the other battle leaders the regular troops were just pawns in a great game. For Druss there was no honor in leading from behind. He respected his men too much not to lead them into battle standing by their sides. For the first time in his life, he questioned his grandfather's orders. Shocked and upset, Battle Leader Drogon, his grandfather, angrily ordered Druss to do as he was told and lead his men from behind where he could give commands and direct them where needed.   So Druss obeyed. Sadly he lost half of his men that day. In his heart, he has always felt that he deserved to die with them that day. The worst of it was that death of those men did not matter to his grandfather or to anyone else. Saying nothing, Druss did his duty and when the war was finally over and he had completed his time of service he left. Drogon took this as betrayal and disowned his only grandson Druss.    So now Druss is looking for a man in the mirror that he can respect. I man with whose life has meaning and purpose. A different man than the one that looks out at him now.
