Grey Guardians
The Grey Guardians are a relatively small mountain range in the north of the Isthmus of Lustria. These mountains are all volcanic.
Geography
The Guardians are grey where they are not covered with green overgrowth. The mountains are relatively short so there are at least sparse plants even at the peaks.
Localized Phenomena
The volcanoes are generally more active as one moves from east to west. The western edge is circled by a volcanic jungle that is very fertile but sees frequent fires, with major eruptions every few years. The volcanoes on the eastern edge only erupt every decade or two (unless magically triggered).
Fauna & Flora
Fast growing plants of various sizes dominate the general area. The mountains themselves tend to have a lot of short plants including scrubs, flowers, and grasses.
The animals here are relatively small, mobile, and have sharp senses, the better to detect and then avoid dangerous eruptions of magma or poisonous gas.
Natural Resources
Volcanic rock is quarried here, especially obsidian which is a favored material for weapons and tools by Skink weapon artificers.
History
This mountain range and the area around is regularly patrolled but the Slann always know when a volcano is going to erupt fully or release toxic gases and the Skinks carefully wrote all the predictions down so the mountain patrols never fall to volcanic dangers (though they can still run afoul of hungry predators or slip and fall while climbing).
Also, the local Slann can suppress a volcanic eruption or cause an eruption. Mazdamundi himself weaponized the entire range's volcanos against Daemon attackers during the Great Cataclysm.
A small number of times since, individual volcanoes have been detonated to slay or simply block invaders. During the Sotek War, an expeditionary force of Skaven scouted the area and they theorized with the right magic or warpstone contraption, the Skaven could force an eruption. This was only established in theory. The expeditionary force only made it that far north by sheer dumb luck and only occupied the mountains for a few days before the armies of Hexoatl caught them and destroyed them.
