Brighthall Castle

Brighthall Castle is the headquarters for the Holy Guard in the city of Mystryl. It is one of the prominent locations in the Temple District, situated just below the Temple of Nine Stars on the lower terrace carved into the mountain. The Great Library and the Magic University of Mystryl sit just to its east. Brighthall includes facilities for administration, supplies, room and board, and military training for Holy Guard members. A ten-foot-thick stone wall surrounds the compound in the shape of a long rectangle in a north-south orientation.   There are four entrances through the perimeter wall. Each one includes a portcullis and a heavy gate reinforced with iron, and they are flanked on either side by guard towers. The south entrance is considered the main entrance and is where civilians can enter the castle for their needs. The other three entrances are used mainly for supply deliveries and troop movement in and out of the castle.   The south end of the first floor is a large public lobby. It is dominated by a large jade statue of the first Knight of Mystra, Dacian Moonreaver. The front desk is attended by the administrative lieutenant assigned to Brighthall (currently Melna Madz), as well as several guards. The rest of the first floor includes the storage room, the mess, the arms and armor room, and the Knight of Mystra's personal office. The north doors of the floor open to the training yard, which includes an archery range and several sparring rings, one of which is shielded for magic combat.   The second floor is the primary living quarters. There is a large bunk room for the rank-and-file soldiers, and there are individual rooms for the lieutenants and captains. Directly above the Knight's office is his personal room, the most spacious and comfortable room in the castle, though still not luxurious by most standards. The second floor opens to a balcony where soldiers and invitees can look out over the training grounds.   The third floor is smaller than the overall footprint of the building. It includes administrative spaces and meeting rooms for high-level discussions and setting of policy. Not much else is known about the third floor by anyone except by the highest-ranking soldiers and officials in the Guard and the Confederation Arcanum. Even the stairway to the third floor is magically warded.

The Midnight Mountain Incident

Following the Midnight Mountain Incident, parts of the castle were damaged. The Holy Guard intends to conduct a thorough survey of the exterior walls and the building's foundation, but most of their attention was first focused on choosing Virgil Halathar's successor.
