Sometimes dreams do come true
But so do nightmares
We arrive back in Lemish. It look similar but we see all these guards wearing green dragon symbol. Not good. But Madlyn know a way in.
We found her friend- Alec. He have his pants down but Madlyn doesn't seem impressed. She decide to kidnap him and sneak into Lemish. Eventually she let him pull his pants back up. By then, we are at her home.
Madlyn have nice home. Beds. Full fridge. Space. A fridge full of food. Wait.
Anyway. Arthur came home before could tie Alec down. Madlyn happy to see him. Her shoulders seem less tense. I am happy her friend is safe. That's not always the news we get.
Arthur smart. He help us get into the keep. Sneak through the city back to Manon's home.
It look similar to how I first saw it. But now I can see all Manons old toys and the furniture. This is where she spent her days. Full of icky books, bananas, and her favourite things. Many reminders of Grandpa Mary.
I see it hard for Manon here. But we focus on our job. We need to find Goldon dragons.
We look for way into the lair. Or a clue on hoe to get there. Zy find a book. It Grandpa Mary journal. I skim through most of it, but one bit talk about a person called Fury. She have red hair and axe like me but she must have been a god or something. Because she move through time magic. She tried to kill Grandpa Mary and hunt down Manon. Manon happy, or sad, not sure, to read his words. He write to her.
Manon asks if I am Fury. I say no, my name is Bo. (Duh). I see she is scared of Fury. I tell Manon I wouldn't let Fury get her. Manon is my family now too.
We find the dragon lair. It down the fireplace. When we found copper dragons, there was a keeper and lots of them.
But now we see no keeper. And only one dragon breathing.
We leap on it and try to move all the scales that are weighing it down. I hold open it's eyes while Kaylan and Manon try to use magic. A lot doesn't work.
Then I suddenly see a dragon eye staring right at me.
The dragon awakens. Kivone is his name. He is the only one alive. He mad. He goes after green dragons. We go to help, but find the Damien the mayor and his army of silver dragons waiting for us. I enter rage. Its so easy now. I have so much to be angry for. I think of how he kill Thersha.
I slice my way through with Maldyn killing them behind me. Zy accidently shoots at him and he moved the arrows to attack Madlyn, but she survives. Our leader is incredibly strong.
I get frightened. I see takhisis. But it do not stop me like before. I know she isn't there. I go for Damien. I attack him, he is nearly dead, just dodging my attack. Manon arrives and makes him frozen and relive through all the people he killed. Like Thersha. But takhisis symbol appears.
Me no like her at all.
Damien sends one final attack. It attacks Manon and he blows into ash. She defeated him. We defeat the silver draconians!
But fight not done. Now there are two green dragons. One is hurt, like the gold dragon. But between Madlyn's powerful Smites, Lania's hammer, Zy's arrows, and Kaylan's healing spells, we make easy work of it all.
Kevin look at me. Tell me to hop on. I do, axe in hand. As he flies through the sky, so fast it is hard to see, I just hold on tightly. I do not let go. The air gets thin, my lungs burn, my skin cold. But the rage in me keeps me warm. It keeps me going.
I am Bo Burwitz, dragon rider.
I drop from the dragon. He grabs the green dragon in the air, exposing its long neck.
For my axe.
I slice it through. As I fall, I see Kevin rips its head clean off its body, right from the massive wound I left it.
As I fall, for just a moment, I feel peace. A strange peace I haven't felt in a while. But it's not there long. This is just the beginning. There will be more dragons to slay. I need to slaughter more. Then takhisis. I have to kill her for what she did.
Then…what?
Luckily Kevin catches me before I splat on the floor.
We finally saved the people of Lemish! I got to ride a dragon!! We all happy. Sometimes dreams do come true.
But so do nightmares
The green dragons laid dead. Filled with unquenched rage, Kevin turned its fire towards the city. It was still angry. It started to burn the people of Lemish.
I fly with Zy on my back. We try to stop it, but it move too fast. Manon able to use magic to talk it down. But only for a short time. Just enough for it to go back to it’s eggs. Zy and I talk to Kevin. But he tell us to round up all the traitors. He will burn them. He will get his revenge.
I get it. I do. How I wanted to slice every evil dragon thing for what they did to my town. I feel that same rage.
But Kaylan and Lania don't like it. They try to stop the gold dragon. Why keep killing? We are trying to be a force for good. Does all that make it better?
It doesn't. I know it doesn't. They may be right. But I dont know. I stay by its side as it holds its eggs. I try to tell it what I know to be true.
“It's like starving and only getting a taste. It's like being thirsty and only getting a drop. Its all you think about. You'll always be hungry. You'll always be thirsty.”
“Then I'll be hungry. I'll be thirsty.”
500 souls. It burned the 500 souls that fought for the green dragon. I don't know if innocent. But still people. Am I innocent? I've killed many. I'll kill more.
I watch as the screams start and the fire burns. It kills all those that sided with the green dragon. As Kaylan later says, the mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters. Maybe they do what they can to save their family. Can I blame them for that?
The gold dragon come back. Kevin and I do not look alike. He all blonde and pointy. But for a moment it's like looking back at me. Back after I had buried my entire town.
He say, “I'll always be hungry.”
I say, “I'll always be thirsty.”

The next day we go on field trip. We follow Kaylan to big building. Lots of shiny things inside. No churches in Heckle, but supposedly people wake up early on Sundays to hang out here for some reason.
Kaylan seem angry. She blast door down and march in. It good to see Kaylan smash stuff, she grow a lot.
But then we see two people. One, I learn, is her mother. She do not act like a mother. She mean. She roll her eyes at Kaylan. I do not know why. Kaylan is the picture of good and selfless. A daughter any mother should be proud of.
Kaylan look at that man- Silas- like how Zy look at everyone. She mad.
Madlyn tell me to hold him. I do easily. He too weak.
Kaylan cut off his fingers. Bo get worried. The anger in her eyes is what I have seen too many times. I get worried she will kill him. But Bo wrong. Kaylan makes him give up his gold and do good. I smile. Kaylan always know what right.
Meanwhile Zy and I have fun rubbing dirt everywhere. Too clean in there.
Now we go off to Calaman. To stop whatever Madlyn's God thing told her about. And more importantly, to find Mom. Kevin won't join us, he has to look after his eggs. But I tell him if he do, he has one task.
Protect Zy. At all cost. One day, when we defeat Takhisis, all my anger will bengone. It will be only her (and hopefully Mom) left.
Hopefully then, this nightmare will end.
