The tour bus is broken down; we're switching the order of days. Instead of heading to Tikal for a day of exploring the ruins, we're instead going to the village of Altura for some shopping and other touristy-things. Lyra's having a field day, but I'm rather bored. I hate shopping. I'd really rather be doing fieldwork, or visiting a cultural or historical museum...
[[From DM: While they are distracted with haggling, you are watching the rest of the "crowd". You see a boy of maybe 12 or 13 creep up behind Lyra and attempt to rifle her pockets.]] I step up and stop him. He's rather scared of us...
The story he tells us is that his mom died when he was little and his dad, a fisherman, is sick and can't work enough to feed the family, so he (the kid I caught) picks pockets. Daniel doesn't believe he's telling the complete truth, so the kid leads us to see his dad.
[[about the kid's name: How about Toño? Short from Antonio. the kid's dad is Antonio, and the non-Christian priest he associates with is Shenau.]]
Daniel goes up to the dad and cofronts him about the kid's thievery. While they're getting into it, the priest-man Shenau sits down by the river and slaps the water, summoning a black caiman. The kid runs off.
By the time we've chased off the caiman and the ghoul who summoned it (and Lyra is significantly injured), the kid returns with a few security guards from the tour company. We head back to the resort, escorted by the security guards. I'm disgusted with the whole episode.
