by Raven

[[From GM: Raven wakes up to a letter from Daniel and $100k that he would've given her towards raising and caring for Tonio, as well as anote that her package has been rerouted to the post office on campus.
The letter would say "I understand he is staying with you by his own free will. Please take this money to help you raise him and care for him, I expect nothing but the best for him. As you might have noticed, I will not be continuing on this journey with the coterie, as I'm being called elsewhere. If you ever need to find me, on an emergency related to Tonio, please call this number XXX XXX XXXXX."]]

While out hunting, I encounter someone also skulking about - he appears to be someone's ghoul. As I'm about to leave, he charges at me. I'm unable to stop him, and he actually gets some of my blood. He then cowers in shame (or something), and when I try to leave he follows me, apologizing profusely and trying to explain. All I want is to feed, so I tell him to shut up and not interfere.
He follows me back to the warehouse, where I beg Lottie, Lyra, and our contact Andrei for help. Baal Acosta, as the guy introduces himself, was apparently the ghoul of someone who has apparently perished in the recent disaster [one of the low-level Brujha of the city]. Andrei tells me he's my responsibility, but I don't want it. I didn't want any of this.

Lyra wants to go home, and that means breaching the perimeter of the city. Time to break into the post office to retrieve the grenade launcher... Tono seems to think he's coming along, and while Andrei thinks it's a bad idea, I have no problem with it. He knows how to handle a pistol and when to stay out of the way, so I'm not too worried about him - as long as Andrei behaves himself.
Tono drives us into the city - apparently he's done this sort of thing before - and gets us close to Lyra's neighborhood. It's pretty nasty out on the lake, dead creatures everywhere. What's not dead is definitely badly mutated. Tono just runs over any of these mutant creatures that get in front of the car, almost like a video game.
Lyra's house is still standing, but it's about the only one in the neighborhood. The spirits from before are still there, but there's also some new, different-looking spirit-forms [Bane and Bane-infested] that are absolutely everywhere. There's also two or three spots of concentrated spirit-energy scattered around. It's really weird, and I don't really want to go in. I don't know if I have the right equipment to deal with them, should they prove hostile.

We get out of the car and head toward the house...
[[From GM: You see someone sitting by the bonfire pit, out near the water]] It turns out to be an old acquaintance of Lyra's.
As Lyra and Andrei are talking to Lyra's friend, something out in the water comes toward the beach, aggressively. It's a gator-thing, and it makes a nasty, unnatural screech, glowing an unnatural spirit-shade.
I manage to put it down with a single shot from Jordan, but it's not normal - not even for a shapeshifter - so I'm not sure if it's really dead, or at least no longer a threat. There's some flickering glowing light as it goes down, but I can't quite see what it is.
