We return to the resort and fill Lottie in on our adventure and why we have an adolescent boy in tow. I also mention that I need to acquire some more appropriate ammo for my weapons; Lottie sends a few messages and says that something should arrive by the time we get up in the evening.
==The next evening==
Lyra calls for room service (she's apparently *very* hungry), and we all feed.Daniel brings Toño over so he can go down to breakfast; Lyra joins him. Lottie takes Toño to the couch and gets him to tell us about Tikal and whatever else he can think of about the local area. I listen while inspecting my weapons again. I need to figure out the best way to carry everything...
[As we're getting ready to go, Daniel asks Toño how old he is; the answer is he'll be 16 next month.]
Danae (tour guide): Tikal was occupied between approximately 600 BC and AD 900, and showcases more than 3,000 structures, ranging from pyramids and temples to plazas and an acropolis. It was one of the most important urban Mayan centers for more than a thousand years and is today one of the largest Mayan archaeological sites of its time period still in existence.
The experience of visiting Tikal is enhanced by the surroundings. Steep pyramids rise above the jungle's lush green canopy populated by birds, monkeys, and other wildlife. Tikal National Park, which encompasses the ruins, is a biosphere reserve, protecting rainforest and wildlife habitat.
Monkeys are prevalent at Tikal. You'll definitely see spider monkeys and, if you don't see the howler monkeys, you'll most certainly hear them.
Danae is explaining about misconceptions, particularly the one about the religious practices being bloodthirsty. According to the spiel, there's no proof the priests and rituals were as bloodthirsty as they're made out to be. [[From GM: You see a glimpse of movement above you and watch something slowly rolling down towards you and the group from the peak of the pyramid. As it gets closer, you see it is a skull, most likely human. It rolls past you. As you turn around, it comes to rest at the base of the pyramid atop a mound of skulls. In fact, the ground below is littered with them. You blink, and the vision disappears.]] The ethereal realm seems to differ.
[[From GM: You see movement at the top of the pyramid; no way to tell if it's corporeal or not from this distance. No one else seems to see it at this point.]]
Danae moves on, but Lyra heads off into the jungle. Lottie hurries after Lyra, and I head up to investigate the flash of movement.As I get closer, it's clearly a humanoid, probably male, and definitely corporeal.As Daniel comes up behind me, he calls my attention to a pair of cats at the top, watching. Lyra and Lottie also have a pair of cats stalking them.
Lottie scares one of her pair into running partway up the pyramid, cutting off our way down. Lyra convinces one to back off, but it doesn't leave completely. Shenau steps out from behind a pillar, looking very different from when we last saw him. His face is painted to resemble a jaguar, and his eyes seem to glow. He's holding a freshly-severed head (probably human...). I shoot him [silver bullet, handgun]. His chest shatters; a creature leaps out of where his heart should have been. The body rolls down and Lottie pounces on it, shredding it even more. The creature runs up and shelters behind the three cats at the top.
[[From GM: In your head, you hear a very deep male voice say "You are not welcome here."]]
Inspecting the body, I recognize that it's the result of some kind of ritual, and the heart is probably somewhere up at the top, where the creature is. The creature is probably corporeal - at least, it's not a ghost.
