A disturbing night, I was more sure I would not live thru the hour with every passing moment. It started when I went to get a little drink, the accursed sword seemed not to care. As I sat I saw the persons from my disturbing dream, I tried to run – surely it couldn’t be real, but sat frozen, oh god what that sword has done to me. As I sat frozen in terror, eventually I had yet another "episode" and was forced to act.
I talked with my fellow victims who I will briefly describe:
The first is a goody-two-shoes bouncer, Rei with amazing physical prowess. She doesn’t seem to know true adventure, but she is amazing with a huge katana, and very frightening. The second member of our sad bunch is a beautiful devil woman, who rearrages the fates to suit her, Bibiana and her strange tiny companion, Gren. I am pretty sure she is running a hustle of some sort, but the world seems to twist to suit her as she walks by. She isn’t “scary” in the traditional sense, but is truly one of the most frightening people in retrospect of the evening. Lastly, the shadow man Kabouto, seems to live here and is some sort of respectable magic criminal. He thinks we are a band of “heroes”, though all evidence is to the contrary.
As we were talking about our shared nightmare and the ridiculous coins, a woman in the tavern was shot. A flurry of activity, but nothing came of it. In the aftermath we met a man who lost his money in a bad bet, he seemed like a good mark and that Bibiana was making her move, but then everything went to the crapper. He was apparently propositioned to sell his daughter to pay his debts – that reawaked that accursed sword. I narrowly avoided another "episode", and in another accursed moment found myself speaking with the king and his guard, we must go see him on the morrow. I am sure he will denounce us and kill us in some horrific way, hopefully he will at least melt this horrible sword into shovel for his stables. Yet that is a problem for another day, at that point the night was far from over, and I must continue to write, though I can't imagine I could forget the terrors I have felt. We followed up on this fellow, Wally,’s sad story at a private bar where fights were to take place. I was hoping to get a show and some good bets, but we snuck around and didn't learn much. Stupidly getting caught, I don’t really know what happened as I wisely hid in a closet with the shadowman, while Bibiana insulted the manhood of a bunch of toughs. Rei tried to get her out, and I have no idea what happened next, but Bibiana seemed to have some how gotten her and Rei "in" with Ren who seems important in this organization.
After some debate we decided to follow the money which was with Ren. The foul Eye of Justice was unusually slightly useful and lead the way to a beautiful house. The shadowman and Bibi went a bit over the top with the parlor tricks and we drove off the superstitious guards, it was a good thing they wore their brown pants.
As a distraction I rapped on a painted-over window, and my heart filled with joy as the Eye of Justice ate a well-placed crossbow bolt. I know that curse of a bird will be back to haunt me tomorrow, but still I can enjoy the moment. I wanted to see it again and tricked the guard into shooting out the window, with an illusion of the Eye of Justice. Bibiana and Kabouto zapped themselves inside and invisible to explore the place.
Rei and I hung around outside, she useless in the dark, and me knowing we were going to die, but unable to resist the push of the terrible cold taskmaster. As they existed, it seemed that I was saved, nothing seemed out of place, for a shady fight club, and the accursed sword seemed to lose interest. We bickered about lost opportunities in the house, and that never to be hated enough sword once again took the upper hand and blasted the door off its hinges, with what I heard mine own voice say was the “Light of Torm” allowing another search, while I lead the remaining fool guards on a bit of a chase.
Unfortunately, this search found enslaved girls – hell itself could not re-sheath the sword from hell with that knowledge. Bibi and I covered the door to keep the returning guards away, while Kabouto and Rei looted the house. I was bummed until it seemed that they entered a fight was even more hard fought than the one outside. As the sword’s power lashed out, killing one of my attackers, I wept in frustration and fear as I felt the sword enslave another unlucky soul and turn him back on his comrades. The fool sword insisted on joining the fight inside as the entrance came under our control, and I needed my brown pants as the biggest monster you had ever seen fought Rei on the stairs. My tormentor blasted, not the huge monster, but a tiny gangster, rocking him out of a wicked smirk. Kabouto was nowhere to be seen, but the shadows encircling our enemies left no doubt of the shadowman’s hand in their fate. Rei’s fists were going a mile a minute, but not making much headway, until the fates own devil, Bibiana, bloated Rei’s form to the most fearsome ape, and she pounded the 6 eyed monstrosity like a sick puppy in the alleys of Valenar.
The battle won, there was at least some treasure. I, unfortunately, only got my “fair” share. Hopefully I can convert it to something more portable. Tomorrow we face the king, I don’t see a way out, I am sure even if the King didn’t find me my “episodes” would kill me. My fates saved me for another day, just to be crushed even more hopelessly on the next.
