With the magical flask in hand and Raghnall along for the journey, I returned to Johanns and his master in Africa. We spent a good amount of time there, Raghnall learned some of the basics of how to craft the tattoos himself, and we both got some tattoos since we were there. I also spent some time working with Raghnall to reduce the influence of the corruption that had taken ahold of my dreams. It's not all gone, but its much better than it was before. But most importantly, with the games fast approaching, I turned my efforts towards preparing to win.
Raghnall and I traveled to Greece where we met up and stayed with Roderick. The games began, and I took every opportunity to participate. With all the competitors being immortals, it was interesting to see how my skills stood up to the rest. I did well at the combat sports although I wasn't victorious there, and mainly was average throughout. But what I really prepared for was the main event: the pentathalon. I took first place in wrestling and foot race, as well as second in the javelin throw. The points I gathered put me in a solid lead and I won the competition! Just as I knew I would! Another favorite highlight of the games was the gladiatorial combat. Roderick and I teamed up and dominated in the group combat games, winning me a Cotinus Olive Wreath.
As the champion of the games, I had my opportunity to speak with the Heirophant and get my favor. I told him of my plan to visit Lord Hades in the underworld, to speak with the god in person. He suggested that attempting to do so may cause my legend to end like Icarus. He believed that if I were to die in the underworld, I may not be immortal any longer. It's been a long time since I held any fear of death, but this is the path I chose. I've worked hard to reach where I am, and the gods have given me nothing aside from the immortality that let me survive this long. Everything else I've accomplished, I did with my own two hands. With my own strength and courage. I'm not going to back out now. The Heirophant gave me two Obols, Greek coins to pay Charon, and said that I could use them to cross the river Styx (which apparently is a real river. Seems kind of too easy, honestly).
While celebrating after my victory, Toussine appeared. She had heard of my exploits and victories at the games and had come to ask my help. Apparently, her latest visions hinted that the end of the world may be approaching, in just 400 years. I hesitated for a moment. On one hand, I finally had what I needed to visit the underworld and get the answers I've been seeking for centuries. On the other hand, I've been given the opportunity to help an oracle save the world; and if that isn't the work of a legendary hero, then what is? I decided that I would take this opportunity that fate has placed in my path, as it would allow me to better prepare for my journey to the underworld. I still wanted to bring a gift worthy of a god anyways, so that Hades might answer my questions. I entrusted the Obols to my good friend Roderick, since he has safe locations to keep them, and has been nothing but trustworthy, and I set out on the road once again with Toussine to find the others and save the world!
