Clan Død

Structure

The Død Jarl is chosen by a series of rituals that test those put forward to the limit of their abilities. Only one passing the twelve trials is allowed to ascend to the position of Jarl, and if no one succeeds, then the position is taken by a council until one worthy of the title steps forward.

Culture

Død society traditionally alternates between raiding and hibernation seasons. Raiding seasons include the pillaging of others for wealth and resources and hibernation involves looking within to their needs and managing their affairs.   Death is central to Død society and their core role in raids is the raising of fallen warriors to return to Solstein where they may be buried with their ancestors. The Død maintain huge underground crypts filled with fallen Clansmen and others who sold their fallen bodies in exchange for services of the clan. Many in Clan Død have a skull of an ancestor that helps guide the family in future decisions and take great pride in their ancestors below that protect the living.

History

The Død have long tended to the needs of the dead of the valley often preparing the mounds of fallen warriors so they may offer wisdom to the lost and aiding in funeral rights for the fallen of other clans.    During the reign of the Emerald King the Død thrived as allies of Stiegsson and often kept the dead raised to serve as guards and enforcers of his will. Using their influence they greatly expanded their catacombs to include fallen from other clans, hordes they now claim to have properly buried, and brought wealth and knowledge to their homes. When the Emerald King was exposed the Død stood beside him and suffered greatly in the following war as their dead were crushed. The Død Jarl Iegrith was the last to betray his King but eventually agreed to join the conspirators to slay him and flee through the Calgurn Pass.   Since those days the Død have remained distant from the other clans, often distrusted but not actively threatened. Their relations with the Måne have grown increasingly strained following a claim that a fallen Måne Jarl's tomb was defiled by their hands. Though this matter has been investigated no conclusions were ever concussively drawn and both now harbour ill will to the other for the actions both have taken since.    The Død did not support Skade's claim to the Warchief instead offering their support to the Varcheg claim. Under her leadership they sent several representatives to her counsels who critiqued her inwards developments many of whom found themselves killed by the Måne Jarl Ubba.

Worship

The Død worship Chalon who they depict as a death priest guarded by the risen skeletons of fallen soldiers who swear fealty to their fallen lord.
