Personal history
Ulf was born at the birth of a long winter as the child of a human and goliath both of whom were renowned raiders among the clan. Expectations remained high throughout his youth and at every opportunity Ulf showed his skills with the axe challenging other children to Holmgang and demonstrating feats of strength and greatness.
On his first raid this prowess continued and his blade was quickly bloodied and proven invaluable amidst the raiders. On his return however he found the everyday life unsatisfying. Ulf prayed deeply to Marvos and began calling for a sign of his greatness swearing that he would devout himself totally to any worthy deed put before him. Ulf however heard no answer.
In raid after raid he pushed himself further and further relishing in Marvos' glory and soon leading his own. At home he was dissatisfied often leaving the clan over winter to survive in the wilds and push himself further. It was here that the legends emerged of him taking a bear as a lover with Ulf himself being a werebear that chooses to hide his hybrid form. Ulf never fully denied these rumors believing it merely to bring more glory to his legend but still he sought a sign from Marvos.
When Skade rose to power Ulf had his first great crisis realizing raiding was banned and he would be denied any further glory to his legacy. His voice was loud and furious among the clan pushing for resistance and rejection of the 'pacifist jarl' and a return to the way. Where he could Ulf would meet the skirmishes of the Braende before the Warchief called peace between the clans and when Jarl Gothram went to issue his demands Ulf rejoiced.
The return of the Jarl was unexpected however and as Gothram pledged his clan to their cause talking of a great future raid that would descend them into the valley Ulf saw only more delays to his legend. Pledging to return in time for the Great Raid Ulf entered the mountains above Solstein and lived for two years with only his own wits and skills. He found forgotten dwarven outposts and ruins of giant courts, goliath clans and snow elf hideaways, and above it all he found a message from his lord.
Ulf witnessed in the snow a stampeding blizzard and a thundering drum. He saw as snow met iron and swallowed a land below and he heard the wind whisper to him the names of a thousand heroes that would never be forgotten. As he experienced his wonderment he returned to the hold where many of his peers found him forever changed, more zealous and somehow lacking in his wits. Ulf sought out the Stormhorse of his vision to no luck until Raz destroyed an amber obelisk with thunderclap and transformed earning the unending allegiance of the Varcheg raider.

Ulf believes in the 'way' of the Varcheg and seeks honour and glory in battle at any price. He has no qualms about raiding others and favours a martial solution to any problem. Signs of cowardice are repulsive to him and Ulf believes they have no right to the supplies of war needed for the worthy.
