Hamis Myth in Aldern | World Anvil

Hamis

Elder Tree Hamis, the Fifth Seed

According to myth the Elder Tree known as Hamis began its life during the Randeny Period, best guess around 2800 pre-sc. Hamis grows atop the steep ridged Mount Silah in the northern Loslands of Jerain, on the major continent of Ethae. Its earliest history is unknown, it being located so far south on the continent away from any civilization of early mankind. The oldest legends of the tree come from Los folklore millennia after the fact, and are taken with a grain of salt by the Jenuwan Order.

The first understandings of the history of Hamis come from the early Randagri Period when ice dominated Aldern, due to the eruption of the Na Boon Super Volcano after the Aggelomachy. Tall glaciers grew up around the lands of Hamis, with the tree's mandle protecting it and its surrounding from freezing. These tales say that Jaraite survivors of the Aggelomachy huddled under the trees canopy and Mantle to survive the era of ice. These survivors, ancient and still strong with the old magic of the world, aided Hamis in holding the glaciers at bay. Believing themselves the last of mankind they saw a sacred duty to preserve Alu's creation. During this era the people went back to their old ways, naked and free, living off the thick vegetation in their remote homeland. They communed with plants and animals and remained at peace. Hamis choose the white stag Yella as its Narasan protector during this time.

Narasan - Yella, the White Stag

Fairy - Known as the 'Aos si', these fairies of elder tree Hamis dwell deep in the Loslands, reclusive, but friendly, they are known to guide lost hunters home, sneak into villages to play with children, and befriend any animal they come across. That said, like their northern kin, they are very protection of their tree and will kill any that come near enough to harm the tree. They are recognized from their translucent wings of violet and blue and near universally bright red hair.
